Rep. Jack Kingston, Republican of Georgia, tried to smear Barack Obama for not wearing a flag lapel pin -- but he wasn't wearing one himself! MSNBC's Dan Abrams totally humiliated Kingston. It's an awesome sight to behold.

This is my first post at DU -- hopefully I've given about the right amount of information. Hope you enjoy the video -- it was fun to make.

1. nice one
You should date that last bit of Obama, i'm assuming it wasn't in the last 2 weeks, so it'd be better to know it was a while ago, and it wasn't done because of stupid people like Kingston.

2. good idea
unfortunately you can't update a specific youtube video w/o breaking all the old links, but I will definitely do that for any future videos (i'm working on one now that i've got high hopes for).

3. Good for Abrams, and welcome to DU
He didn't let that bullshit stand, even calling it the "right-wing smear machine" then said it was pure sleeze. Good job, Dan.

Welcome to DU, Jed!

8. The lapel pin issue is ridiculous but that guy was hardly "pwned", more like "gently ribbed"
Pwning would have involved calling the guy on the tivial nature of his complaint - not cutesy jokes. The guy will continue to talk about Obama's lapel pin only he'll make sure to wear one when he does it.

What was accomplished? Nothing.

11. And I won't put one of the those dumb ass "support our troop" ribbons on the back of my car either..
Is THIS what patriotism is today? A lapel pin? A magnetic ribbon? Honest to God, these hypocrites are so full of sh*t!!

I would have given my left arm to have them call us home from Vietnam a month earlier, or a day earlier. Instead, we stayed there for "honor"....pure bullshit.

Get our men and women OUT of Iraq YESTERDAY!! Support American businesses and workers. THAT, to me, is patriotism....along with many more "constructive aspects" of protecting America's interests at home and abroad.

12. Sometimes I just don't know what is scarier.
The fact that an elected member of Congress would think that bringing up the wearing (or not wearing) of a flag lapel pin makes for good political debate or the fact that it actually does because votes can be swayed by such idiotic nonsense.

Why don't we just start counting the number of "support our troop" ribbons stuck on the back of a candidates car to determine who has the best position on the war?

Honestly, as idiotic as Kingston seems when making that argument, I believe that the reason he does it is not because he is an idiot, but because it actually works. And that thought scares me more than anything else.

14. Lapel pins scare me
They remind me of the film Schindler's List. I always think of the SS officers' uniforms and their prominent use of lapel pins.

The post 9/11 climate had (has?) the same feel. Declaring your allegiance to an orthodox set of ideas was more important than trying to rationally assess the situation and do good works. When I realized Obama doesn't wear one, I knew we were dealing with someone altogether different.

16. This is why I get my information from the Internet.
I don't think NBC, CBS, ABC or Faux (yeah go ahead and laugh) would point out Kingston's hypocrisy. Only select cable network personalities would have the cajunas to take Kingston to task for this.

When the RW smear machine plays this card again (and they will), this scenario with Kingston and Abrams should receive the highest saturation on blogs and the web, just to show the sheer hypocrisy of the Republicans.

Kingston is a fucking turd. He's the douchebag who whined so much about Congress having to work a 5-day week.
