A new Will.i.am's new Obama Video that's great. As good or better than the "Yes We Can" song.

1. We are the ones we've been waiting for
we know what happened in 2000 and 2004...
but in 2008...
it's different...

we are awake...
and there is a movement...

and "it's hard to change a movement"...

last time "we" didn't have a movement...
America wasn't united...

and now "United and "Standing"...for something...
we know the power of "US"...
and we have a person who represents the "U.S."...

"US"...

"we are the ones we've been waiting for"...

I'm proud to be an American...

:applause:

6. It's a quote I've always loved. Maria Shriver brought it into this race...
...when she showed up in LA and said it on the stage there ~ such a simple and powerful truth.

9. Hey I love those celestial choirs!
That Will.i.am is a good!

My favorite part is the girl who speaks about about 1:35 into the video.
"I think the thing that inspires me the most about Obama is that he's really going to be the President of the United States. He's not going to be the President of just the top 10 percent, or the President of the most powerful corporations, or the President of the most powerful lobbyists, he's going to be our President, he's going to speak for us, because we put him there."

Kerry Washington. She starred in 'Last King of Scotland', among other movies; I first saw her in an episode of 'Law & Order'.

edit: p.s. Duh! Kerry also played the blind gal who dated Ben Grimm (The Thing) in the recent Fantastic Four movies.

It's just killing me.

I'd rather be a Obama hope monger over a McCain war monger. But that's just me.

And truth be told, I want all these young kids to take over running the party right now. I'm tired and I want to sit back and watch and only vote on election day, and let them lead.

23. yeah celestial choirs can be so tiresome
kidding

wish I could rec again

This coupled with this

http:// www.thenation.com/blogs/notion?bid=15&pid=292522

is so cool.

It motivated this. . .

Having been nauseated by a foreign policy comprised primarily on bellicosity in recent years, I was thrilled to hear of a far more enlightened approach.

When I arrived at your phrase about Barack's desire to "expand the bandwidth," I had a vision.

I've had them before. Some have come true. This was one of the more, if not the most powerful I've ever had.

I envisioned a Peace Summit involving representatives of conflicted nations such as Iran, Israel, Palestine, and other nations being held at the Imagine Peace Tower in Iceland http://www.imaginepeace.com/tower.html during the first year of an Obama Presidency. It felt as though it could be in the Spring.

Please make it so. It would be so powerfully symbolic of an entirely new era.

28. It's a lot like what I'm hearing about the ground game in various states
The national campaign is usually getting to a state and finding local Obama supporters have already started organizing, and the national campaign runs with what the locals already have and already know.

It's not bullshit; this guy means the "ground up" stuff.

35. Let me point you the the "ground up" in Texas
Burnt Orange Report blog - Austin

Ian Davis, BOR Member/Obama Activist, on Front Page of WSJ
Obama's organization in the Lone Star State, which holds its potentially decisive presidential primary on Tuesday, has been "more like a baling wire and duct tape thing," says Mitch Stewart, who is running the campaign here. Mr. Stewart and the first dozen paid Obama staffers touched down in this capital city less than three weeks ago.

The uncharacteristic late start has left the Illinois senator relying to an unusual degree on the groundwork of volunteers such as Ian Davis. The 29-year-old Austin community organizer has been laboring for months with no guidance at all from Obama headquarters. When Sen. Obama's team finally arrived, Mr. Davis handed over laundry baskets stuffed with 20,000 handwritten names of potential volunteers, which Mr. Davis had gathered on his own.

"At the end of the day," Mr. Stewart says, it will be people like Ian Davis "who win this thing."

The laundry basket thing might be a bit of an exaggeration. The Texans for Obama group had a listserve up the first time Obama visited Austin in 2007 with over 20,000 e-mails. But it makes good story. And yes Ian and the other hard core volunteers are very much plugged in with the paid staffers. The staffers didn't kick them out the door, they knew they needed the local talent.

:applause:

41. Agreed. But apart from the creepiness of the O-BAM-A chant...
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 12:56 AM by krkaufman
... is the fact that the chant would seem to be in stark contrast to the message of the video, that "We are the ones" who will enable change.

Also, this video seems to communicate that "we" are mostly celebrities. Will would do well to diversify the subjects of his cameos. They seem a bit Hollywood-centric. (Of course, I'm assuming that the 50% of those appearing, whom I don't recognize, are Hollywooders or celebrities of some sort.)

He's a freaking politician, not your best friend... And, no, I don't think he'll particularly fight for many of the "working class" issues as John Edwards might have, but I'm voting for him regardless because I am scared to death of McCain.

My only issue with these kinds of videos are that people are setting themselves up for disappointment. The energy and optimism Obama brings is inspiring, but I fear people will start to become apathetic once again (ripe for the Republican reaping) when Obama fails to live up to these standards his fans have set for him.
