Do you guys realize Hillary never congratulated Obama last night?
I wasn't really focussing on that last night, I was so happy with the Obama win. But what the HELL?? She should have acknowledged him, even in one sentence. But no, NOTHING. That is wrong.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/12/AR2008021203176.html?hpid=topnews

After flying from Virginia to Texas for a rally on Tuesday night, Clinton did not publicly acknowledge, even in passing, that three significant primaries had taken place that day and her campaign had not issued a statement hours after results were announced.

Clinton has made a habit of ignoring contests she loses. On Monday, she cited Louisiana's large African American population in explaining her defeat there. At other times, her campaign has suggested the results of caucuses in general should be discounted.

But on Tuesday, she did not even do that much.

And this:

When Clinton mentioned having differences with Obama over health care and the mortgage crisis, she was booed. Her comments continued past 9:30 p.m. Eastern time, as the polls in Maryland closed and the race was called for Obama, but in the giant arena, with a crowd her campaign estimated at 12,000, it seemed as though the defeat had not happened.

"It's the first day of the Texas campaign," said Doug Hattaway, a campaign spokesman.

She was BOOED??? At her own rally???

1. Hillary doesn't strike me as the most gracious person out there...
The dismissive tone she uses when explaining her losses is a real turn off. Not sure what she's trying to accomplish by dissing caucuses, small states, red-state Democrats, and states with a heavy African-American population. Her sense of entitlement rivals that of Bush II. Her insistence that she's ready to be president on day 1 becomes less believable by the day considering that she wasn't even ready for a primary campaign. She totally mis-read the electorate and underestimated her opponent. So much for her judgement. She claims to be a hands-on manager, but had no idea what was going on in her own campaign. So much for her 35 years of experience.

As far as the booing - I didn't hear the segment, but do you think it was directed at Obama rather than Clinton? Sometimes during a rally, one candidate will mention the name of their rival and when the name is mentioned, booing ensues.

2. Good point. The WP reporter seemed to interpret the boo
being directed at her. I suppose a video might be able to clarify it. Or not.

3. when an action reinforces a preconceived idea of a person,
that's when it's noticed and that's when it sticks. That's what has happened here. I noticed it right away as I listened to her speech. Reinforces the idea that she's arrogant and also that she thinks she can just ignore "inconvenient" realities and they won't hurt her. Like the ostrich with its head in the sand. That's standard politics and people are sick and tired of it after two * terms!

I just loved it when in the 60 Minutes interview the reporter brought up something to Obama that was a problem or difficulty, and he readily nodded his head and said, "yeah" and just accepted it as part of the whole thing. Then Hillary was asked whether she ever considered that she would lose, and she was in absolute denial--or acted like it--which came off as really phony. This showed two entirely different ways to project "positive". One authentic, and one not!

4. I saw the 60 Minutes bit and her claim that she *never* considers losing.
:wow: Keeping a positive outlook is one thing, but saying she's *never* considered losing tells me she's either a liar, or she doesn't think things through, neither of which bodes well for her. The last thing we need is another president who reacts without considering all options.

As for her speech last night, I wondered if it was obvious to those watching...sometimes things get lost in print. Thanks for your clarification. :hi:

Apparently she did congratulate him today. They played it on NPR - don't recall where she was.

7. Tucker Carlson went on and on about this last night
said that EVERYone on EVERY race manages to say something nice (even if fake-nice) about winning opponent. . . that he'd never seen anything like this. It is, for me, another reason not to vote for her.
