May I intrude just a moment to offer congrats.... |
|
I'm bereft at the moment and wish my emptiness would leave. My group just loved Joe and to tell you we were shocked would be a gross understatement. However, just so you know, after I had heard Barack speak at the convention in '04, my initial reaction was, "Oh. My. God. He was/is a breath of fresh air. I sent congrats to his senate office and urged him to consider running. I then went to the Biden camp for numerous reasons: I'm Irish, loved his flippant style (see his statement re Jooliani) and his non-corporate obligations. I loved his global appeal and respect from world leaders. Needless to say, I wish he had called his buddies, the DuPonts and others..but hey, that's yesterdays news.
My hearty congratulations to all of you, Barack could not have done this stunning win without all of you. In Biden's words..."God love ya." I'm going to go back to my corner now and lick my wounds. When the tears stop I hope I can come back and help all of you bring Senator Barack Obama right into that Oval Office. The thought of another Clinton in the WH sends chills up my spine. Eventually I'm going to "Get Up" and do that "emotional investment thing" you get when you find a new love. Till then, best wishes to you all and sincere congratuations on a stunning victory.

After the last two presidential election disasters, we can all certainly empathize with how you're feeling right now -- and that makes your gracious congratulations and promise of support all the more heartfelt and welcome.
I hope you're feeling better about Senator Biden's withdrawal soon. He's certainly not being shuttled off to retirement by this and will continue his very valuable work in the Senate.
Welcome to Team Obama! :pals:

2. Let me also offer my congrats for Obama's win. |
|
I participated in the Iowa caucus and Obama's people dominated the room. They tried to work with us to make Biden viable, but the numbers just weren't there. The number of Dems attending was twice what they normally are.
I have always had the feeling that Joe has kind of mentored Barack since he came to the senate, but I may be wrong. I've seen several great photos of the two of them conversing and they certainly seem to enjoy each other's company.
I, too, will join with you once the sting is gone. Our whole family was involved across the county, so today is especially difficult. We'll survive. We always do.
Stick to the high road. Good luck and bless you all.

3. Where in Iowa did you caucus? |
|
The turnout was absolutely phenominal, wasn't it? I wasn't there, but my daughter has been volunteering for Obama in Ames since before Christmas. From everything I've heard, our young volunteers have been a reason for joy and pride.
I don't know if Biden has mentored Obama, but I have seen a couple of pictures of them together also and get the strong feeling that they are good friends.
In any case, Senator Biden will continue his great work in the Senate and, should Obama become President, he will no doubt be a valued advisor.
Thanks so much for your good wishes and support. :pals:

4. I was in Burlington and the crowds were incredible. |
|
Even headquarters thought they had enough to make Joe viable across the state, but that was gaging by the traditional attendance. Instead of 14 people to get one delegate, we needed 35. Ouch! We had 14.
It was the same throughout the county. Can you imagine what the general election will be like?
Incredible.

5. The GE will be of historic proportions, too. |
|
People are fed up and (to steal a phrase) fired up for change.
We already know that when more people vote, Democrats win. People are not going to allow themselves to be tricked or intimidated into not voting this year -- and I'm hoping that the greater turnout nationwide will mean Obama wins in a landslide.

6. I offer my congratulations also |
|
I was hoping for a Biden-Obama ticket and am extremely disappointed at the moment. However, an Obama-Biden ticket could make me very happy. Anyway, congrats and good luck the rest of the way!

We won't know the ticket until after we have a nominee, of course. If it's Barack, though, I trust that Biden will be a primary trusted advisor at the very least.
