Congress, while you're dithering with nonbinding resolutions, Bush is opening another front in Iran.
Congress, you MUST ASSERT YOUR POWERS NOW.

You don't have any time to waste to stop the actions of this malignant president.

He has ordered multiple battle groups to the Middle East. He is agitating for some type of reaction by Iran that can be ginned up to give him a reason to unleash his war machine against them.

Bush claims to have "information" that implicates Iran in attacks on our troops in Iraq, yet he will not release this dossier, and the likely reason is, the evidence is weak.

Together, the US and Israel are pursuing financial sanctions against Iran, cutting the country off from world markets:

The US "push back" against Iran comprises many other elements beyond Iraq. Unconfirmed reports suggest Vice-President Dick Cheney has cut a deal with Saudi Arabia to keep oil production up even as prices fall, to undercut Iran's main source of foreign currency. Washington is pursuing expanding, non-UN global financial sanctions against Tehran; encouraging and arming a "new alignment" of Sunni Arab Gulf states; and highlighting Iran's role in "supporting terrorism" in Palestine, where it helps bankroll the Hamas government, and Lebanon, where it backs Hizbullah. The US is also deploying powerful naval forces in the Gulf that are of little help in Iraq but could more easily be used to mount air strikes on Iran. ....

Israel is launching a campaign to isolate Iran economically and to soften up world opinion for the option of a military strike aimed at crippling or delaying Tehran's uranium enrichment programme.

Pressure will be applied to major US pension funds to stop investment in about 70 companies that trade directly with Iran, and to international banks that trade with its oil sector, cutting off the country's access to hard currency. The aim is to isolate Tehran from the world markets in a campaign similar to that against South Africa at the height of apartheid. .....

These are not the actions of mere posturing.

These are the immediate steps Congress must take to keep us out of yet another Bush War:

1. Immediately revoke the 2001 Resolution for the Use of Force that Bush is now claiming gives him unfettered authority to do anything he wants, for as long as he wants, in Iraq or in any other place on the earth he so desires.

2. Send immediate word to Bush that if he attacks Iran or any other nation without a Congressional declaration of war, he will be immediately impeached.

3. Congress should pre-emptively draw up Articles of Impeachment NOW, and have them at the ready, because when Bush unleashes his attack on Iran, he hopes you will be forced to support his actions, thereby burying all feeble, fresh attempts to stop him.

4. Send Speaker Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid in front of the media, publicly announcing that they will impeach this president immediately if he attacks Iran.

The people of this country need to hear this. They need to hear it every day how this rogue president, without reason, without diplomacy, without conscience, is gravely endangering us all.

but somehow, I suspect they don't have the stomach for it, nor the spine, nor the will power, nor the insight.

Shame on them, if they fail us (and the world) now. and shame on us for not pushing them to do the right thing.

I realize the Dems have only been in power for a short time, but they really do need to get the lead out on this and take some action that has teeth to it. Non-binding resolutions are a waste of their time and OUR MONEY.

What the hell does the man need to do to get impeached, for God's sake?

1. Kill somebody? He's done that.

2. Lie to the American people on television. He's done that.

3. Out undercover agents? He's done that.

4. Cover up his crimes? He's done that.

Get a blow job? Who the hell would want to blow the dude? You'd be better off sucking battery acid out of a battery.

resolutions. We need a binding revolution in congress ASAP. People are dying in our name EVERY DAY, by the hundreds and the politicians are only worried about 2008 and how they look.

Congress and the federal judges need to stop appeasing the petrofascist's and their war for profit now.

7. You know they are!
A non-binding resolution is the equivalent of beating someone with a wet noodle. A "binding revolution" is exactly what's needed.

12. To Hell with 2008 they need to fight Bush like there is no tomorrow
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 05:56 PM by Hubert Flottz
because every day congress don't fight this, tooth and nail, there will be no tomorrow for more American soldiers and the hundreds of people being killed daily, in Iraq and Afghanistan, for Bush's insane, child like, political ego and for the further enrichment of Exxon's, Halliburton's and the arms pusher's corporate board members.

If things go on like they are now, I don't expect an election in 2008.

And if there is one, will our votes be "Binding?"

9. K & R...and a note.
:kick:

Note: The person(s) who emerges as the "hero"... the one who ultimately stops this madman, will have the overwhelming support and gratitude of Americans for years to come. On the other hand, those who fail to act (especially when in a position to do so) are the ones who are risking political suicide IMO....

It's NOT the other way around....SPEAK UP!!

11. America is going to go one of two ways in the next few weeks
Attack IRAN ~or~ Impeach the pResident & Vice pResident

It's that serious, it's that close to the wire. Attacking Iran would likely begin what will become WWIII, as well as a return to the military draft. There would likely be many other ramifications that ALL Americans would find ghastly and repugnant.

If Americans are given the choice of those two options, only the mentally ill (or a bodiless, soul-less 'Corporation' that has NOTHING to lose and everything$$$$ to gain) would choose "Attack Iran".

Congress you MUST act now! STRONGLY! It's the PEOPLE who put you where you are. It's the PEOPLE who are going to be forced to fight the madmen's war(s). It's the PEOPLE who are going to love you for your 'strength of character' and boldness for standing up to these madmen at the helm at a time when WE THE PEOPLE so urgently need you to ACT!

Unfortunately, it is obvious that congress is complicit with this this president, but in a distant, conspiratorial way.

It is utterly sickening. Our country is dead

17. America has long been "the land of 'second chances' or 'the last chance'
Maybe we give congress 'one last chance' to assert IT's power on our behalf as it was meant to. It HAS to.

I'm trying to imagine what 'General America's' reaction will/would be to our attacking Iran. I don't think most Americans are even aware of how close we are to doing so. That said, I don't think the reaction would be 'good' at all. It would be a sort of :wtf: and then shrub/Cheney would end up being impeached anyway.

(John & Jane Doe get all freaked when their son turns 18 and has to register for the Selective Service (I know this to be true b/c I have kidS in this age range and live in an affluent Republic area....many cocktail parties spent talking about this....) If we attacked Iran these folks would FREAK (b/c they know the military is close to being broken - they know that it is extremely weakened for sure) The government warmongers would HAVE to call for their sons' (and daughters?) bodies too....)

Impeaching bush/cheney NOW is the WISEST thing for Congress to do ~ because they're gonna end up doing it ANYWAY. So, it's time for Congress to act like/be the 'grown-up' and see/anticipate the dangers ahead and STOP IT before it starts.

If Congress doesn't have the will to use it's constitutionally given powers, I dunno, it's 'storming the Bastille', pitchforks & tar/feathers, driving our John Deere tractors onto the Mall.....Remember, you can microwave some of the people some of the time, but you can't microwave all of the people all of the time! (cause otherwise there wouldn't be any 'fodder' left to fight your stupid wars!)

Praying & working for PEACE,
M_Y_H

Congress has the authority, just not the WILL. We (citizens) need to pressure them to do their duty and stop this lunatic NOW. Screw that non-binding crap. Not 6 months from now. today. Stop. him. now. bush has gone to great lengths to gut our country in every imanginable way. he needs to be stopped before the international community recognizes him to be the uncontained threat we all know him to be.

14. Congress is actually complicit with this theatre and dithering
Its some cheap salve and sop to the American voters congress once actually represented, making lots of noise about the Middle East, but doing utterly and absolutely nothing to stop the widening conflagration.

As far as I'm concerned they should all resign and let us start over

What bothers me most is how difficult it is to get attention from even our fellow DUers on this issue -- much less the Ruling Class.

We need to bang away HARD!

31.  The senators and congress should have been at the DC protests
A few were there , this tells me one thing , they all had to know about it and if not why not ?

If they were really concerned about what the people who voted them in had to say they would have all been there in person .

I don't feel letters or emails are given much thought . Or talking to some staffer over the phone .

This is a disgrace to the people to not show up if you ask me , right out in front of their work place how difficult would that be ?
