Poll question: How many believe a deal was cut with Bush over impeachment? |
|
A thought came to me today about the Bush impeachment issue, and I was curious if any others believe it has merit?
Do you believe it possible that Democratic leadership made a deal with Bush to keep impeachment off the table in exchange for a slam dunk in 2008 for the Presidency? I'm surmising that such a deal could have been to require that Bush spearhead the immigration amnesty issue knowing that it would divide the Republicans and that many will simply skip the 2008 election.
My very strong belief is that Bush and Cheney need to go through the impeachment process if for no other reason than to get them under oath on the floor of Congress and find out the truth about their 6 years of corruption. Of the multitudes of serious questions that need asked, none would be as frivolous as "did you have sex with that woman"?
If the truth was exposed one could suggest that many GOP senators might consider it to be in their political interest to vote FOR impeachment.
Based upon the huge number of Americans of all political persuasions opposed to the amnesty bill, I predict it will mark a major milestone in disenchanted American voters and will negatively affect both the Democratic and Republican party if it is passed, and could be the birth of a third party.

1. he won't be impeached because he won't be convicted |

I have not seen any legally competent evidence of an impeachable offense.

2. impeachment is NOT a legal matter. it's purely political. AND the |
|
pugs KNEW they had ZERO chance of convicting Clenis in the senate
they were USING the impeachment as a platform for all out attack on Gore as candidate.
they knew very well what they were doing, and it WORKED for them in 2000. they connected Gore with Clinton, like Chang and Eng, and made the CENTERPIECE of their campaign their 'vow' 'to restore honor and dignity' to the Whitehouse.
do you know that they mentioned that 'vow' in EVERY campaign appearance?

11. Impeachment may be political but conviction IS a legal matter |

And, yes, I do believe some Democrats have sold out as far as this issue goes.

17. But Cheney is not running..... |
|
...if the impeachment of Clinton was to hurt Gore, how does this have bearing on impeaching Bush? The Rep candidate is already going to put as much distance away from Bush as it is. And Cheney is not running.

I doubt even W could deliver Democrats a slam dunk the way they're headed. It's a nice thought, though.

4. Bush Isn't Involved In the Impeachment Deal, Lieberman May Be |
|
but I predict that the GOP will throw Georgie to the fires of impeachment before the election. They will see no other way to survive.

9. You see, that's what I think too |
|
Bush Cheney will soon be ripe for impeachment (no pun intended). It's a gamble but if the crimes are proven and convincingly proven, then the GOP Senators will go for it only to save their own hides and to be seen as independent and honest, and not part of the Washington GOP Bush establishment.
If Bush's numbers continue the slide he will have zero support except for the US Chamber of Commerce and the Club For Growth but he doesn't care except he doesn't want impeached. I'm also suspicious about Lieberman's role.
I wish that I had not become so cynical, but I believe that there is much more goes on under the table in government than what the people see and hear on the media.

5. I think it's a HUGE mistake and a DANGER to our Constitution that he's not being Impeached. |
|
I think the Dems decided to take out the the entire party from the inside out instead. The more they investigate, the more garbage they'll find, the more garbage they find, the more people will be DISGUSTED with the repuke party and the more people disgusted with the repuke party, the more likely it is they will will not vote the rat bastards into office again.
Nixon got away with his crimes. Reagan got away with his crimes and now this scumbag piece of shit will skate too. They're just chipping away at the "G-d Damn piece of paper." aka.....THE CONSTITUTION. The more the criminal repukes get away with their crimes, the more comfortable they will be in committing them.
I don't think the Dems made a deal, but I do believe they made a decision not to go down that road because they're a bunch of chicken shits who care more about being reelected than that RULE OF LAW and the CONSTITUTION.

10. I think our country and Constitution will survive quite nicely. |
|
I am not sure how well we would survive a President Cheney, possibly the best impeachment insurance any president has had since Dan Quayle. I agree with Gore on this and he does not think it is a huge mistake or that our Constitution will be in danger if there is no impeachment. Might there not be other things to be done rather than obsess on an impeachment which is not going to happen?

16. Impeaching is not convicting, but it has a better chance than Bush. |
|
You can scream, holler, rant, rave, set your hair on fire, pull your hair out, threaten to leave, declare our democratic republic will be over--impeachment is not going to happen. Gore is right, there is not enough time and there is no chance of success. There are plenty of other things which can happen which need our attention. In the meantime let Congress do their investigations and oversight which might actually have a chance of bearing fruit.

We'd be pretty likely to get 2/3 to convict Gonzales at this point.

|
and not paying for their crimes! What's to stop them the next time? NOTHING. This is 3 REPUKE Presidents who have committed crimes while in office and 3 REPUKE presidents who got away with it. It's ridiculous. Why is the Impeachment clause in the Constitution? For looks? Or is it there for only BLOW JOBS and personal extramarital affairs? Never mind the 3500 dead troops and 600,000 dead Iraqis killed because a president LIED about why he was going to war.

First of all, Bush apparently thinks he has a direct line to God and that he's incapable of making a mistake.
Secondly, it would take a majority of Senators to convict him, and regardless of how the Repukes feel about immigration or any of Bush's follies, they would never vote to do it.

12. Ridiculous. What "amnesty" bill? |
|
Do you really think that a supposedly "huge" number of Americans really give a rip about "illegal" immigration, or are ready to deport 12-20 million poor people, enough to for a new "Know Nothing Party" that would threaten the established parties? Or that the Fratboy would form some kind of secret alliance with the Dems to spare him from the impeachment process that the Dems are too timid to pursue?
Perhaps you should throw some space "aliens" and Elvis into the fantasy to make it more believable.

19. It doesn't but perjury is then a likely outcome |
|
Being under oath doesn't ensure that the truth is told. History has proven that perjury is then a likely outcome.
The Repubs knew that when they went after Clinton, when all they wanted was to demean and besmirch and position for 2000. I do believe that the impeachment attempt of Clinton was a major factor in neutering Clinton with 9-11 the ultimate outcome.
Things are different with this administration as the Constitution has been subverted and they need held accountable. Impeachment should be about more than politics. But that's all politicians know and concern themselves about......isn't it? It's never about right or wrong but how's it going to affect the elections.
