Conyers blasts Fox News for ‘apology.’

Fox News “apologized” today after airing images of Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) during a discussion of indicted Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) (both happen to be African African).

“Yesterday at this time, news of the indictment of Congressman William Jefferson came down. We mistakenly ran the wrong video to accompany this story and we apologize for that error,” a Fox anchor, Martha MacCallum, told viewers at about 1:20 p.m. today. The 10-second apology made no reference to Mr. Conyers and did not explain why or how the erroneous video made it to air.

Conyers responded today in a statement:

Fox News has a history of inappropriate on-air mistakes that are neither fair, nor balanced. This type of disrespect for people of color should no longer be tolerated. I am personally offended by the network’s complete disregard for accuracy in reporting and lackluster on-air apology.

I doubt it. These people don't do anything by mistake, everything is by design.

12. There's no shame anymore. Faux news (if it were a REAL newschannel
or a 'real' "anything" would be absolutely HORRIFIED by a mistake such as this.

But it's not horrified (or genuinely apologetic) - Faux News is not (and NEVER HAS BEEN) a 'real' news channel. Faux News is the Propaganda Channel - that's all it ever has been and all it will continue to be.

Too bad so many Americans think this lying 'Pinocchio channel' is the 'real (boy) deal'.

19. I'm not doubting you, but it just makes me think for a moment......
I don't have cable. Just have an old antennae on my roof....and WE GET FOX on the teevee - so it MUST be broadcasting then too!

Someone please explain to me how THAT all works!

23. So the Fox network programming portion of it ~ b/c it is broadcast ~
must fall under FCC regulations then, correct?

(don't mean to put YOU on the spot, just trying to understand how this all works).

26. actually, its even more complicated
Broadcast networks are not licensed or regulated. Only broadcast stations. Fox owns a broadcast network, several cable networks (Fox News, FX, various regional sports networks, etc), and a number of individual stations. Only the stations it owns are licensed. Most of the "Fox network" broadcast stations are actually owned by other companies and merely affiliated with Fox.

At the end of the day, there really is nothing that the FCC can do to Fox arising out of the content of its cable networks. That content differs from the broadcast network programming and, in any event, is protected by the first amendment at a higher level than broadcast programming. To the extent Conyers has any legal recourse against Fox --- and I don't think he does -- it would be through a suit for defamation. As a public figure, it would be nearly impossible for him to prevail in such an action.

24. A "News Channel" that doesn't know shit about the news.
If anyone doubts that these idiots are the propogands wing of the Whitehouse, I've got some swamp land in Florida I would like to show you.

Do these idiots check sources or proof read anything before they broadcast it? High school newspaper reporters are taught to confirm what they write...how come these fuckers aren't held to the same standard?

Can Conyers sue these bastards for libel?
