"What I did in Church on Sunday" :

Check this out from my hometown newspaper: http://www.tribstar.com/archivesearch/local_story_126235058.html

If anyone isn't appalled by this, I wouldn't know what to say to them. :(

1. "It became necessary to destroy the village in order to save it."
-- An American major after the destruction of the Vietnamese Village Ben Tre

It was wrong then and it's just as wrong now. That preacher oughta be chased out of town by a mob bearing torches.

5. Churches may serve many functions, but they are also businesses
Some have governing councils that can hire and fire ministers. An appeal to the council is in order. Others will need the harsh medicine of having disgusted congregants vote with both their feet and their wallets.

Anyone who puts up with this is giving it silent approval, and that is morally wrong.

(The angriest I ever saw my mother get is when a stuffed shirt of a priest gave a sermon on how the only place for women in the church was cleaning it. My mother didn't walk out and I was more disappointed in her for that than anything else she ever did or did not do)

2. These people terrify me.
Ryberg justified capital punishment and said it’s in the Bible. God ordains the principle of taking life as an instrument of his justice, he added.

“God gaveth long before our nation was born. It’s always been on the books. And is the highest law of the land,” Ryberg said. “And I want to let you know our Supreme Court, they’re not supreme, only God is. And is the supreme law of the land, and the buck stops here.”

4. "And is the highest law of the land..."
The reason I oppose capital punishment... killing shouldn't be our highest function. Weak mainded people will want to emulate it.
