I don't intend on having children, so I suppose I don't have to worry about "the next generation" or "the world I will leave to my children". I was told that it wasn't my fight. I can't help but be sickened by the war on science, however. NONE of my acquaintances "believe" in evolution. I didn't even know anyone seriously advocated this position until I started going to school in Indiana (My home is Chicago). Here in Indiana, my husband and I are the minority. Everyone thinks that we are the crazy heathens who don't believe in the veracity of the Bible.

Looking into the new "creation museum" I see that some displays include a triceratops with a saddle. I've seen estimates that about forty percent of Americans believe the Earth was created in seven days. No wonder, with creationists distorting and outright lying about evidence. Places like Bryan College give creationism validity. http://www.bryan.edu/core.html. They don't even hide their contempt for science. Kurt P. Wise has said: "We need to train Southern Baptist pastors to equip young people to engage Darwinism from elementary school on. We also need to train Southern Baptists to recognize Darwinist thinking in ways that are subtle that they don't even recognize."

Wise uses his credentials as a scientist to bolster support for creationism. However he has said: "if all the evidence in the universe turns against creationism, I would be the first to admit it, but I would still be a creationist because that is what the Word of God seems to indicate." What kind of scientific thinking is that?

It is so demoralizing and I hate being at school because I feel so utterly alone here. I'm sick of constantly hearing the smears against Darwin. I'm sick of hearing loopy reasoning like "the bible is inerrant because it says so." I'm glad I'm not having kids, but I hate that our country is going down the toilet.

I too am not having children, but that doesn't mean I want to spend the rest of my life in Moranistan either. So unless they plan on starting up some Logan's Run-esque culling of the old, I still have to deal with the "stupidification" of America on all levels, not just superstition, and frankly it pisses me off.

And for all those I just offended: get over it. If you think we need to sit back and ignore the growing threat of the theocrats you are sadly mistaken. Frankly, I tried the whole "live and let live" approach, and this is where we are today. Honestly, I would prefer to get back to the idea of that, and of being able to respect all faiths, and I will as soon as people stop trying to legislate their god onto me and mine. And any Christians out there who don't do this - and I am aware the majority don't do that - should be fighting along side of us to stop the immoral minority from giving you a bad name.
