I don't understand. With everyone bitching about the price of gas...

then why is it, that on my morning drive, everyone is passing me? I have to take my son to work every morning, and I use the Interstate, where the speed limit is 65 mph. People pass me like I'm driving in molasses, and I'm doing the speed limit. A rough estimate would be that everyone on the road is doing between 70 and 75 mph. Aside from the fact that Missouri drivers are among the worst, (trust me, I know of where I speak) and close calls are a dime a dozen, how much extra fuel is being consumed by these speed demons?

I realize that it wouldn't matter if the speed limit was 55, like it used to be. No matter what the limit, people are going to average about five miles an hour faster. It's just the nature of Americans.

I really would like to see three things. First, I would like to see fewer SUV's on the road. Fifty five percent of all vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2005 were SUV's. Secondly, I would like to see the speed limits on major highways lowered to 60 mph. And lastly, I would like to see those drivers who complain about the cost of gasoline to quit the hypocrisy and slow down. Then maybe they wouldn't have to fill up so often.

1. People aren't really complaining as you'd expect.
I've noticed the exact same thing: huge cars in the left lane going 70+. If the gas price is so high, how come everyone's driving over 70?

7. We just drove from Phoenix to Las Vegas
Over the weekend. I had the auto-pilot on 80 and might have just as well been standing still. We make the trip a few times a year and there was even more traffic than usual, and Vegas was as busy as ever.

2. If they floor it and take 3 minutes off the trip,
they think they're driving less! That's really how these idiots think! Using the car for less time means using less gas!

They have got to be Republics.

6. Credit Card debt must be through the roof. Folks figure it will all pass and they charge it

and don't think more about it. I don't understand it either, because I remember Carter's time when one had to find a gas station that still had gas , wait in line and folks used carpooling to get to work if they couldn't wait in line to get the gas.

Seems folks really were angry about that ...enough to not give Carter a second term...but the Chimp doesn't seem to ever get folks in the street except us Anti-Iraq Invasion folks and the MSM doesn't bother to even cover us.

I guess it's the Credit Card Nation Phenomenon. Folks weren't living on credit during Carter...it was harder to get a card or a house. You had to prove you could "pay." It doesn't seem that matters anymore.

8. Unfortunately little seems to matter; conservation of limited resources, global warming, ......
climate change, exorbitant national debt, humongous trade deficits, super corrupt government, species extinctions and so on. Live for the day........

11. There's a tax credit for businesses that use SUVs, but people use it too. Close the loophole.
That should make people pay even more for an SUV.

12. Come on Joe, Missouri drivers aren't that bad... have you seen how Kansans drive?
;) For fast drivers though nobody beats Texans :). In all serious though I'm in KC and yes I agree people here are still driving quite fast, 2 years ago when the price of gas jumped as sharply as it is now I actually did notice a decrease in most drivers speed, not so this time.

14. I don't get out much
So I really couldn't say anything about the traffic around KC, here though, when we went to do the grocery shopping last week people were doing fifty or so. We passed many cars and we were driving the limit, one thing about this thievery it has quieted the traffic past our house and I like it better that way.

15. I love when I drive in the "slow" lane and still get people tailgating me..
giving me angry looks when the pass me and honking the horn when I don't go faster than 55 of 60.

We live in the stupid is as stupid does society.

They bitch and complain but yet the continue to feed the beast.

Gas needs to be at least 5 bucks a gallon, period.

17. My SO gets wicked gas mileage in the Impala
keeping it at 60 mph. She did a little experiment driving to work not going over 60 and averaged between 40 and 42 mpg. People just zoom by.
