This is what I see today . I hoped that there was more interest in real issues that effect everyone .

Maybe it's just me .

3. It's more of a "meta-issue" than an "issue" ...

... in that (1) she's an example of the prurient fascination our culture has with people without noteworthy accomplishments - people virtually no person would hold up as a model for their own children, (2) she's iconic of the massively inequitable treatment afforded to people due to race, age, physical attraction, and wealth, and (3) she offers an example of how such people seem strangely incapable of being aware of the extent of their own advantages.

All of the social issues represented are worth discussion, imho. While the language may be specific to Paris, the dynamics and the issues are far more general.

13. Thanks. I'm very interested in how we all create each others' "realities."

Each and every one of us 'sees' a different world - because the people in that 'world' react and respond to each of us differently. It's not as much about WHO we are as it is about how we appear to others - and the built-in biases EVERYONE has. A sexy, white female lives in a completely different 'world' than a homely, brown male. When we can afford 'exclusive' clubs, homes, and shops, we participate in the alteration of our 'world' - but rarely have any comprehension how much. People here have often remarked on how Paris' parents did a poor job. But I think we ALL do a poor job. Some people don't even really know how much force it takes to open some doors - and there are a multitude of such things, some identifiable and some just about how much people smile (or don't). It's not just the big things - it's the infinite number of small things. And I think the latter far outweigh the former by sheer volume and pervasiveness.

Unless and until we appreciate how different these 'worlds' are, without judgment or finger-pointing, we really can't communicate very well. As the gulf between the haves and have-nots grows and our society becomes more and more diverse, such a comprehension becomes ever more important, imho.

7. The only thing more pointless than threads about Paris Hilton
are threads about how pointless the threads about Paris Hilton are.

12.  No , I did not post this to debate the media nonsense about Paris
What the hell good do posts of stars or the wealthy ever do .

Did we learn anything from the Imus deal , did a damn thing change , NO!

We learned or changed nothing from anyone of these hype star topics , if we did then perhaps they would serve a purpose and if anyone feels they do then explain how .

It's distraction at it's best and this is all it is , media distraction that actually out weighed the topic of Peter Pace . And it sells ad time , that it , end of story .
