COLUMBIA -- Attorney General Henry McMaster on Thursday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to resolve the state's water dispute with North Carolina.
He said efforts to head off a massive legal battle over diversion of water from the Catawba River have failed. At issue are plans by the North Carolina cities of Concord and Kannapolis to pump millions of gallons of water a day from the Catawba River, and return it, once used, into the Pee Dee River basin, McMaster said.
"Although the water wars have been raging for years out West, they have not been so raging in the South," he told reporters at a news conference. "However, it's clear that they're here."(snip)
