Rice hints at Libby pardon

Rice hints at Libby pardon.

Meeting with the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said yesterday that Scooter Libby “served the country really well” and hinted that a presidential pardon was in order. “Asked for her views on a pardon, Rice demurred but then came to the strong defense of Libby, stating that he should be treated ‘in accordance’ with his public service.”

1. He IS being treated in accordance with his public service.
But Rice is so used to perjuring, she thinks that is public service.

3. Though she hinted
at it, she also hedged it a bit when asked directly.

4. He obstructed justice by lying to cover up crimes by his superiors.
That pretty much sums up his public service.

It should be called public disservice. He's corrupt, and so are his superiors. They should all be serving time in prison. And that includes Rice, who has had her dirty little hands in the pot as well.

5. She's talking to the WSJ editorial board.
That's about as RW a group as you can find. I don't see anything surprising about her comments, given that she's obviously pandering.

6. In reality, bush has little to lose
by pardoning libby. He will be out of office soon enough and the Dems aren't going to impeach him, so what has bush got to lose now? He and his cronies have made their billions of dollars and will quit to Paraguay or wherever after their term. It will likely hurt other repubs, but I honestly think bush doesn't care one whit about other republicans. Libby will remain a free man, in spite of his criminal activities. Now, if and when a Democrat takes over the Presidency, look for non stop accusations and investigations.

18. How free can Libby be? If pardoned, he has to look over his shoulder
for the rest of his life. There must be some mighty pissed off spooks out there. ;)

8. Fuck Rice and her promotion of the enabling your own oppression thinking
" ‘in accordance’ with his public service.”

The idea that Libby - and many other "public servants" - are doing us, the people, a favor by filling their own wallets and promoting harmful policies while in public office is worthy of scorn and ridicule.

You want to serve the public? The NEVER EVER break the public trust. When you do break the public trust then it doesn't matter how many years you were a (so-called) public servant.

Why would I enable my own oppression at the hands of a corrupt government by believing their years of public service in any way changes how criminal they are or how serious their crimes were (and are)?

Now, if Rice really believes Libby should be judged " ‘in accordance’ with his public service.”, then she will no doubt be lobbying the courts to make sure Libby remains in jail for the rest of his life. Because to judge him "‘in accordance’ with his public service” would be to judge him for the full measure of his crimes while in the capacity of serving the public.

Course, if they all were to be judged "‘in accordance’" with their public service, they would all be in prison for the remainder of their lives.

11. I agree ... 'in accordance with his public service' which included lying and obstructing justice....
Go ahead and defend that before the schoolchildren Condi. Some people should be allowed to lie under oath to Congress, and obstruct a federal investigation, and not be punished. I am sure the kiddies will like that one!

going to jail is in order for him. Ms. Rice was obviously talking about how he did the bidding of the VP.

19. If our leadership were tough & smart, this would be the perfect time...
... to implement & execute tough ethics processes in both houses.

This would provide a sharp contrast for the 08 elections: The Party Of Corruption vs the Democrats.

I won't hold my breath, though.
