"I don't have the luxury of saying, 'Well, it's not gonna happen and, therefore... |
|
...we're gonna do nothing.'"
What Senator said this, and to what issue was he or she referring? It was Kay Bailey Hutchison. She just said it to Chris Matthews, and the subject was illegal immigration legislation.
Wouldn't it be nice if our Democratic Congressmen and women understood that this is the correct attitude regarding impeachment?
Here's part of a letter I just received from my Democratic representative:
Thank you for contacting me regarding your opinions about impeaching President Bush and Vice President Cheney.
As you may know, Congressman Dennis Kucinich recently introduced House Resolution 333 to impeach Vice President Cheney for alleged high crimes and misdemeanors.
While I respect my colleague's legislation, my focus in the 110th Congress is on comprehensive immigration reform, the war in Iraq, solar energy legislation, ethics reform and health care.
. . .
Speaker Pelosi believes that impeachment hearings could harden the partisanship and diminish the momentum we have to pass meaningful legislation that will expand opportunity for all Americans and improve our quality of life.
I always appreciate hearing from constituents, like you, who are informed and interested about issues of importance to Arizona and the nation. Please do not hesitate to contact me again in the future . . . .
Blah, blah, blah.

5. Both are cheerleaders for Bush. |

Hutchison was making excuses for why she'll take the unpopular Republican position of supporting Bush on the immigration issue. I hate her views but her assertion that doing what she believes is right can't depend upon whether her actions are successful is something that Democrats don't get. They folded on Iraq funding because they didn't think they could win--never seeing the value in standing for what's right.
And they use the same excuse for keeping impeachment "off the table." It won't work, they say, therefore, we won't support it. That's a weakling's argument, and it's probably wrong, as well. Dems have all of the investigatory power they need to rip the lid off of every crime of this administration, and the evidence would soon become too powerful for all but the most blindly partisan to deny.
