In Klein's piece, he names all of one blog (Eschaton) as the mobs of semiliterate panic monkeys who are carrying out a personal vendetta--witch hunt, really--against the saintly and intellectually martyred Joe Klein. He tries to bolster his "liberal" status by pointing out that he's been a very harsh critic of Bush.

And therefor what, Joe?

And, apparently, therefor no liberal should have the temerity to criticize Joe Klein.

TPM Cafe's P. Lukasiak sets the record straight on why Mr Klein, for all his Bush criticizing (of late) is still basically masturbating when it comes to dealing with his critics. Joseph A. Palermo on the Huff Post also takes a turn daring to criticize Joe Klein. Both make the point that Klein's characterizing of his critics is a little short on facts. Which is ironic since Klein's biggest beef with bloggers is that they don't act like real journalists.

It's all very confusing, so Ana Marie Cox (the original Wonkette, but now a fellow Time columnist with Klein) did a podcast interview with Joe to find out just who was saying all these terrible things about him. As in, "Please name names, Joe." Joe responds: "Blah blah blah blah blah blah, but I don't think I have to explain my sourcing at all." (link goes to a podcast)

It's not hard to read this. Klein worked long and hard in his life to get to the point where he gets paid to analyze public events and write about his opinion of it all. Now that he's hit the pinacle of his career, he has the misfortune of living in an age when everyone else with internet access gets to write down their opinions too, as if they're opinions were as earned as Joe's. And that's just not fair.
