Terminally ill inmate will still be executed
Edited on Wed Jun-13-07 04:29 AM by MonkeyFunk
OKLAHOMA CITY - The state parole board refused Tuesday to block the execution of a death row inmate who is dying of cancer.

Jimmy Dale Bland is to be executed June 26 for the Nov. 14, 1996, murder of 62-year-old Doyle Windle Rains 11 years ago.

He is "on the verge of death" with advanced lung cancer that has spread to his brain and his hip bone despite radiation and chemotherapy, defense attorney David Autry told the five-member Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board.

4. Oh man, this may be a mercy killing or assisted suicide.
Those are against the Law.

2. In his case, it might be a mercy...
Sad to think of it that way, isn't it?

Executing him for his crimes could hardly be seen as a punishment in this case, could it?

7. Wow, the article indicates that there was prosecutorial misconduct in the trial.
And they give him 6 months tops. You'd think that they could err on the side of humanity and compassion given the misconduct. Have they been keeping him alive intentionally with chemo and radiation JUST so they could execute him? The daughter of his victim stated "He's had enough compassion, He's had enough mercy." :wtf: That's cruel and unusual.

13. Isn't this what Dr. Kevorkian was given 10-25 years in prison for doing?
Except he did it out of compassion instead of vengeance.
