The "hometown" newspaper of Fort Bragg, NC...http://www.fayobserver.com/article?id=265647Truth takes a hit as casualties mountCharles Broadwell
I finished reading Seymour Hersh’s latest article in The New Yorker magazine on Friday afternoon from our newspaper offices here in scenic Massey Hill. I wondered how many people at more imposing headquarters about 10 miles away also had read this report about the Abu Ghraib prisoner-abuse scandal and what they thought about it. I wondered about the insider response at Fort Bragg. In the Army these days, all roads lead here, directly or roundabout.
During the Vietnam War, Hersh broke the story about the massacre by U.S. troops at My Lai. Since 9/11, he has pursued the prosecution of the so-called war on terror, cranking out military-sourced articles as a “one-man reporting machine,” as we labeled him in a 2001 headline.

Gen. John Abizaid, formerly of the 82nd Airborne, does not come across so well in a car-ride episode in Kuwait: “Abizaid turned to Taguba and issued a quiet warning: ‘You and your report will be investigated.’”
The implications of all this are chilling. You think about the troops who have sacrificed for our ideals and values. You think about the breakdowns and abuses that come with a terribly heavy price to pay.
