Has anyone read Scorpion's Gate? Richard Clarke's "fiction" book? |

Was listening to it during the vacation drive, on CD 7 of 8. I'm coming to it a bit late, not sure if there was any discussion here.

Just how real are the facts he brings up? The SecDef is setup as the baddy here. Does SecDef really have National Command Authority, ability to launch nukes along with the prez? Were there any parts of the book that reliable critics (i.e. non-republicans) have proven to be exaggerated or BS? As a novel, I'm liking it. But I'm curious about how much of it I should also take as fact.

I think I recall him saying it was a mix of what has happened, what is happening now, and what could happen in the future if the bad guys continue to go unchecked.

That's the impression I've gotten from reading it. The war-happy stuff was more than just Rummy, he had the backing of the power structure behind W and Darth Cheney. But has anyone else gone through and vetted the claims for truthfulness or at least plausibility? It seems very real but I'd just like to be sure.
