Is it time to DRAFT AL GORE for President?
Are YOU becoming dissatisfied with the current lineup of
Democratic Presidential candidates? I would like to see a
serious campaign to DRAFT AL GORE for the Democratic
Presidential candidate. Do YOU think AL GORE would respond to
our plea? What say YOU?

1. I will stay with HRC, because Gore
is not a fighter. He quit on us in 2000. Do you think Gore will have the African American vote if he is the nominee? HELL NO! Is that why you see this Gore Onama sticker being offered? I do not believe that Gore will even place his name in the pot. Reminds me of a quote from Braveheart. "Just when we thought all hope was lost, our noble saviour(s) have arrived" Gore is not the saviour of the democratic party.....Stay with a winner. Stay with a fighter. Stay with the only proven candidate the right wing not swift boat......HRC
I do thank you...Shalom
Ben David

3. Please explain exactly how he quit.
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 02:41 PM by JTFrog
He fought all the way to the Supreme Court. What was he supposed to do after that? Please be specific as to what you wish he had done further. Take the WH by force?

As for the right not swift boating HRC.. to think that the right will not be swift boating any dem candidate is purely laughable. It's what they do.

5. No
Al Gore is not entitled to a free ride to the nomination. No one is. All candidates need to go through a similar process. It is called the primaries.

I happy with the candidates we have at this point. and would be bemused if Gore got in so late. Most particularly because his positions on the issues are not significantly different than the other candidates and he has offered no particular criticisms of the wannabes.

Al Gore is great without the intervention of 'handlers" and stolen election or not Gore's campaign was tepid when it should have been a slam dunk. Stolen election or not, the results of 2000 do not IMHO provide sanction for a do-over.

I have no problem with Gore's politics, I would be concerned about his ability to campaign effectively and not let others define him. Outside the blogosphere he is only polling in the single digits. I just a large percentage of the voting populace would like to move on beyond the last 7 years and Al Gore is likely going to wind up being the poster boy for the past which his supporters seem to want, but unfortunately so does the RNC..

8. there are a number of things wrong with your argument
The Presidential campaign is still EXTREMELY early.

If you have watched Gore in the past fews or read his words you would see that he would not be "handled" this time around.

I just saw a straw poll posted here today saying he leads all Candidates in NH.

Im amazed that you have been on DU since 2002 and dont seem to know about Gore.

9. I know he is not my first choice
I know plenty about Al Gore and his Politics and I have no problem with either... I continue to believe that he would be portrayed as a "retread" from nearly a decade ago."

I think we need new leadership and new vision. I think the nation is ready to chart a new course.

It is late in the campaifn cycle. You have to realize that the crunch of Primaries in theis election process means that you are going to have to win big early or have a ton of money to do Blitz advertsing for Tsunamii Tuesday.

Gore's entry would fragment the primary voters one more way and would virtually insure that we would have nominee selected at a brokered convention. He would take votes primarily from Clinton and Edwards (IMHO) I would suspect that in any given primary the split among the top 4 candidates would be something like 25-20-20-15 (depending on the state) with Richardon pulling about 10% and the others (Biden, Kucinich, Dodd, Gravel) splitting the remaining 10%.

A three-way may well still wind up in a brokered convention, but a four way race cements it. Al Gore's candidacy at this stage would infuriate party activists aligned with other candidates and the animositity generated by a multi-ballotted convention woould wind up hurting us in the fall.

If he wants to get in... he needs to get in now and I mean right now. If he waits he is going to piss a whole lot of people off. People we need in November '08
