Bush Anticipates Death of Ailing Castro

By Peter Baker
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, June 28, 2007; 2:46 PM

NEWPORT, R.I., June 28 -- President Bush openly anticipated the death of ailing Cuban President Fidel Castro today, picturing it as an opportunity to bring freedom to the Caribbean island after nearly a half century of iron-fisted rule by the fiery Communist leader.

"One day, the good Lord will take Fidel Castro away," Bush said during a question-and-answer session at the U.S. Naval War College here. As the audience laughed and began to applaud, Bush seemed to realize that cheering the death of another head of state, even an enemy, might appear unseemly and quickly quieted the crowd. "No, no, no," he told them.

Bush wishes Cuba's Castro would disappear
1 hour, 10 minutes ago

NEWPORT, Rhode Island (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush made plain his feelings about Fidel Castro on Thursday -- wishing the Cuban leader would disappear.

"One day the good Lord will take Fidel Castro away," Bush said in answer to a question after a speech at the Naval War College.

Asked whether Bush was wishing Castro dead, White House National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said: "The president was commenting on an inevitable event."

Castro has long been a thorn in the side of U.S. presidents, defying them and outlasting them in office.

Documents released by the CIA this week showed that the spy agency worked with three American mobsters in a botched attempt to assassinate Castro in the early 1960s.

6. Seriously, I expect Castro doesn't really do much of anything these days
But the IDEA of a leader opposed to US domination means so much that it makes Bush misspeak his fervent wishes that the guy be dead.

Ha.

14. John Kennedy did a lot more than hope, he actively conspired to
assassinate Castro.
So in this sense, i wouldn't say that bush is any worse than Jack Kennedy.

15. Bush stinks up my old hometown
The jerk doesn't dare come out here to Portland, which his dad once referred to as "little Beirut".

Looking at this through the eyes of History, we can see that Castro will be remembered for his tenacity, audacity, and consistency (these are all things for which we--love him or hate him--owe him respect). Bush, on the other hand, will go down in the history books as the worst president this nation has ever been forced to suffer, with the least accomplishments and the greatest amount of damage done to our nation, starting with 9/11, which rests squarely on the Bush/Cheney regime's shoulders (a more enlightened prez might have paid more attention to CIA reports about bin Laden).

Basically, Bush *envies* Castro.

Bush also continues to wear blinders when he speaks of efforts to "democratize" Cuba. His regime has done such a bang-up job democratizing in the Middle East: Gaza, Lebanon, Iraq, etc. etc. His plan only works when the voted outcomes are the ones they desire. I hope that when Castro finally gets his Day of Rest, the Cuban people keep telling America to go take a flying screw through a rolling jellyroll.
