isn't the SCOTUS decision the punchline to NCLB? |
|
"School choice" is one of the punitive measures that failing schools have to offer to parents.
Where are a lot of failing schools located? In urban, majority black areas.
But you can't set aside race in school choice plans. So urban schools get further defunded (another punitive measure), the motherfuckers who designed the law get to claim that they offered "choice" to the parents...but other schools don't have to accept kids from the ghetto. Rope-a-dope.
Watch for more vouchers talk next.

NCLB sounds like a good plan but it's all about testing. We don't want our kids to be lab rats taught to take tests. We want them to have life skills. There has to be time to wonder about art, music, sports, playtime. There is so much emphasis on math and basic skills that everything else goes out the airlock. With globalization a fact, future generations will need an array of skills beyond the basic.

9. I have a great special ed professor at GA State |
|
who defends NCLB because it made administrivia types pay attention to what happened in special ed. I appreciate the need to not warehouse special ed kids and to push them to achieve, but I think she's missed the larger aim of the law.

this is a rationale for spending more money on the affluent, who have home computers and will ace the tests and punish the poor who do not have the resources and will not test well.

4. This Supreme Court is hellbent on preserving the advantages |

of belonging to a privileged class as much as possible for their own (numerous I believe) children. They care little for the poor, the disadvantaged, the sick, the hardworking but not well educated. They are the hypocrites of our day. They apply the laws strictly but care nothing about the effects of the laws or the public policy for the laws. This will be tragic for our country. It comes at a time when more than ever we need a well educated workforce to compete in global markets. This puts inner city American kids back about about 75 years. My children went to Magnet schools. I know what they mean. These Supreme Court justices are rich and privileged. They send their kids to provide schools or to the better suburban public schools. God forgive them. They know not what they have done.

5. Exactly. This was so calculated and watch for the talking points |

to come out of this. I've noticed that religion made a big presentation here yesterday, too.
I no longer believe anything is coincidental when it comes to politics.
