a factor in her decision to take impeachment off the table.

At the very least it would be seen a power grab. Just wondering. Thoughts?

1. It's a political decision..
the Democrats figure there's more to be gained by leaving him there for now, and it would be an uphill battle anyway. I think they will go after Cheney though.

2. Then, if that's the case, a true "leader" of her Party in Congress, would find someone
to bring the bill forward. Kucinich has a bill written, and so far has 14 signatories. Nancy should be whipping the votes and twisting arms behind the scenes, because this is what the people want.

But, no......... she's an enabler, an apologist, and has the same blood Bush has on his hands on hers every day another soldier dies in Iraq.

3. It might be, but that doesn't excuse her leaving Cheney alone...
...and leaving the figurehead (Bush) in place. Of course, she also might be thinking that by getting rid of Dick, that would put Bush in a position of putting someone presently running for the GOP nom in the VP seat (which would create an incumbency of sorts going into '08). Personally, she should take that risk because Dick is JONESING to bomb Iran and needs to be removed ASAP.

4. A two-thirds majority in the Senate is beyond reach
Edited on Mon Jul-09-07 09:06 AM by Maribelle
So there is no way Bush would be convicted by the current Senate before he leaves office - - leaving Bush not guilty of the charges. This is without question.

Can Bush still be impeached after he leaves office when a two-thirds senate vote might be possible?

Perhaps all those democratic impeachment experts could answer this?

Perhaps all those democratic impeachment experts bashing Pelosi could work harder to put enough democrats into the House and the Senate.

There is a republican Senator from Florida because lazy democrats did not do enough at the grass roots level to get the democrat elected.

5. As far as I know he cannot be "impeached" after his term, because
impeachment is a punishment against a current office holder. He CAN however be charged with criminal charges! THAT would be the route to take IF we can prove the charges in court.

6. She likes her job - and wants to stay there
I think she is acting from self interest.

7. Perhaps "Pelosi in 07" Scares Pelosi Even More Than It Does Bush**

8. This would only happen
if bush & cheney both were to resign (or be convicted by the senate) simultaneously, without Cheney resigning first and bush appointing a successor (and then resigning himself).

Resignations could only happen if there were iron-clad evidence that the votes to Convict were definitely to be found in the Senate. (i.e. 67 senators on record saying "i will vote to convict").

Of course, any VP would have to be approved by Congress, which they could just simply refuse to do until bush/cheney were subsequently convicted (simultaneously) thus bumping up pelosi.
