I Would Probably Vote For A Republican If ... |
|
I would probably vote for a Republican if that Republican were to actively support IMPEACHMENT of Bush/Cheney. I will not vote for any Democrat who does not support IMPEACHMENT of Bush/Cheney.
I would probably donate money to the campaign of a Republican if that Republican were to actively support IMPEACHMENT of Bush/Cheney. I will not contribute to any Democrat who does not support IMPEACHMENT of Bush/Cheney.
I just wanted to make my position clear here. I believe that IMPEACHMENT is much more important than party loyalty and I will support anyone who supports IMPEACHMENT.
Agree or disagree?

1. Well, I couldn't vote for a Republican if he or she |

handed me money and then offered to pleasure me orally. The enemy of my enemy ain't no friend of mine. I'm 100% for impeachment, too, BTW, but this is a line I could not cross.

The GOP reflects not one of my principles. The Democrats at least reflect some of them. So spare me the histrionics, please.

they can SAY all they want to about impeachment, just like now some are saying they want to get out of Iraq. But we've seen via votes that they DON'T walk their talk.

I've never voted for a Republican, and one issue isn't enough to make me start doing it now.
And when do you expect to cast this vote? Nov. 2008, when Bush has 3 months left in office?

Also I believe the newly elected congresscritters would not take office until the new President did.
Can we impeach an ex-president and take away his pension and secret service protection? Should that be a priority?

13. The only time I vote for a Republican |
|
is when, in a local election, they are running uncontested and are part of a list of uncontested local offices which includes Democrats and Independents as well. Sadly, in Arkansas, we don't have write ins, or they wouldn't get my vote at all. I'd do what I did when I lived in Illinois-write in someone's name.

I thought of him saying that if a republican stood up right now and started the impeachment process, while the democrats refuse to, then he would vote for that republican in '08.

17. I could never be that single issue... |
|
You state that party loyalty is the problem, but if Dick Cheney supported Impeachment of Bush, would that make him OK with you, even though he is evil?
If any Republican supported impeachment, I would be VERY suspicious that they were just trying to get single issue voters to vote for them.
It's not party loyalty. It's people who vote for a person due to ONE issue that's the problem. I've never found a single Republican that I agree with on the issues. I've never found a single Democrat that I agree with on all the issues either. But, here's the thing: I can find Democrats that I agree with 90% of the time, but I've yet to find a Republican that I agree with even 10% of the time.
So.. I guess you will have to put me down in the disagree column.

|
Impeachment is one issue. I'm a Democrat because the Democratic Party has the influence to put into action policies and laws that reflect my values. The Republicans, the very same party of those candidates who turned down the invitation to debate at the NAACP conference, mind you, do not reflect ANY of my values. So what if a Republican supported impeachment? That particular Republican would want the current administration replaced by a Republican. Where does that get us?

25. I Would Probably Vote For A Republican If ... |
|
...I woke up to find that rivers run backward, the sun rises in the west, and the Rocky Mountains were missing.
In other words, ain't gonna happen.
Back in the seventies, I occasionally did vote for Republicans before they became completely bat-shit crazy.
Any modestly sane person today who supports anyone or anything Republican should immediately schedule an appointment with a psychotherapist, assuming that person has health insurance, could afford the co-payment, and find a suitable preferred provider!

26. I couldn't disagree more - impeachment is impossible, and a snare and a delusion. |
|
We should be ignoring impeachment altogether, and concentrating on achievable goals instead.
I see, broadly, three categories of argument for initiating impeachment procedings (not "for impeaching - that's not the decision the Dems have to make):
1: Claims that the might succeed; 2: Claims that they would be a good thing even if ithey failed 3: Arguments that what their effects would be are irrelevant, they're a "moral obligation" either way.
1 can be dismissed with the simple mathematical equation 67>51.
2 is, I think, the least worst of the three, but I don't think it's true - I think wasting government time on inevitably-doomed impeachment procedings would quite possibly hand the Republicans a victory in 2008.
3 drives me wild with rage. The fact that so many DUers want to sacrifice the supreme court, abortion, gay rights, the war in Iraq, the environment etc for something that they can't even demonstrate isn't a piece of empty grandstanding is something I find very hard to forgive.

I agree with putting principles before party. I agree with offering support, money, and votes based on platform, record, and issues rather than party. I agree with using my vote to express support, or lack of support, for a party's and/or candidates record and platform.
I just don't know if I could actually vote for a republican. Kind of like being a contestant on "Fear Factor."

If you vote for a Republican for president you'll get a Republican secrrtary of State, a Republican Secretary of Defense, a Republican Secretary of the Interior, and on down the line-- Republicans running EPA, Department of Agriculture, Homeland Security-- eight more years of the same criminal mismanagement of our government by Republican crooks a cronies.
It wouldn't be worth it just for empty vengence.
Let's get a Democrat in there-- any Democrat-- and start putting our country back together.

by the time we vote in the general election, impeachment will be a moot point. They will both be GONE and our new president (whoever he/she will be) will have much more important things to do than to take care of old business.
