Republicans send a CLEAR MESSAGE with Vitter case...
God has reserved "Forgiveness" for Republicans.

God loves Republicans and forgives them their youthful indiscretions.

Carry on.

One of the oldest acronyms around here, and one I use in conversation a lot: It's okay if you're a Repug.

Brothel secrets of the ‘sinator’ shock US right
Tony Allen-Mills, New York - July 15, 2007
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article2075804.ece

.... Senator David Vitter of Louisiana was “one of the nicest and most honourable men I’ve ever met”, a constituent declared last week.

The only problem for Vitter – and for many of his Republican party colleagues – was that the constituent was Jeanette Maier, a former New Orleans brothel madam who claimed the right-wing senator used to be one of her favourite customers.

They have dubbed him Sinator Vitter, a former holier-than-thou conservative braggart whose frequent lectures about the sanctity of marriage have made him a target for derision after revelations about his alleged enthusiasm for the company of prostitutes in both New Orleans and Washington.

As if they did not already have enough on their plates trying to distance themselves from President George W Bush’s policies in Iraq, Vitter’s fellow Republicans on Capitol Hill are quaking at the prospect of a new purge of so-called “moral hypocrites” who preach Christian virtue before nipping off for an extra-marital quickie.

Vitter’s brush with sexual scandal continues a Louisiana tradition of politicians caught with their trousers down. But it has also come at an awkward moment .....

8. Isn't that typical of American Protestant/evangelical Christianity tho?
Don't American Protestant and evangelical Christians believe that they can get away w/ anything and always be forgiven? Sort of an eternal get out of jail free card? I've never understood that, and maybe it's because I'm neither Protestant nor evangelical, but clearly Republicans have adopted this. They believe themselves to be righteous and good no matter how many crimes they commit. That's neither Jewish nor Catholic. Even in Buddhism there's karma to be had for doing evil deeds, and in Hinduism there's a tough road ahead if you're evil, as you'll be born way down low on the totem of life.

9. Also that Senators benefit from the 'trickle-down' effect of the bu$h* Imperial Presidency
by sheer proximity, senators and congressmen are exempt from laws that apply to mere mortals like you and I.

10. Y'know, I don't give a rat's patootie what Vitter's jollies are or how he gets them.
That's between him and his family and his spiritual authority, if he cares about such. And I don't want to see a witch hunt to turf morality-preaching hypocrites from Congress --of either party. Seriously. I don't think kinky jollies, so long as they are pursued between consenting adults, is grounds for determining a person's fitness for a specific job except, maybe, that of minister in a particularly narrow-minded religious sect.

Fine with me, says I, if some congresscritter wants to be tied up and smeared with chocolate pudding every few weeks just to get a hoo-ha, so long as that congresscritter works hard, serves their constituents, and puts the interests of all Americans first in their job.

So no, I don't think Vitter should be forced to resign, or any other congresscritter whose jollies are a little on the non-standard side.

BUT I SURE AS HELL WOULD LIKE TO SEE A MORATORIUM ON CONGRESSCRITTERS TELLING US ABOUT WHATTHEHELL WE SHOULD OR SHOULDN'T OUGHTA BE DOING WITH OTHER CONSENTING ADULTS.

Period.

Could we just get that out of this whole silly foofooraw?

I'd shake this weasel's hand (wash afterward, though) and say a heartfelt "thankyou" if that ended up being the outcome.

But I ain't holding my breath.

irritatedly,
Bright
