C-span callers, Am I biased? |
|
It seems to me that those moderates, indies, and libruls who call in seem to make a lot of sense, whereas the pro-bush folks who call in strike me as delusional.
My question is, are my own tastes, biases, and way of thinking so skewed, that I refuse to listen to other voices and ignore other positions that may be right in the big scheme of things? Do I drown out other voices because of my own proclivities and strong biases?
Or are those callers really fucking delusional, with no knowledge of history, little experience in global issues, little or no reading of news or history books, and are suffering from the unfortunate shrinking of their frontal lobes that necessarily follows repeated washing of their brains?
I really hope it is the latter. If it is the former, that means that my own delusions are terrible.

the war and * are, I've chalked off this way. The only news they listen to is from Rush and Hannity. That's where they're getting their info, so they have no other viewpoint. They're comical in a sad, scary way, but I take heart that they're in the minority.

2. No, you're not biased.... |
|
They're as dumb as a box of rocks.... Seriously, they have no real good arguments to make because the facts aren't on their side, so they end up sounding like blithering idiots.

3. The bush lovers are ignoring the daily masquers in Iraq. |
|
They are accepting the obvious lies, manipulations and distortions the bushes spew forth on a daily bases.
They are denying science and other facts in order to support a power hungry authoritarian.
How can they appear sensible if they have to rationalize so much in order to support so little?

already know it is just an often mentioned republic talking point. You are probably shouting a response to the TV before the caller has finished. Me too, that is when I know to turn it off and do something else like come here for sanity.

6. that walking dead guy from AZ got me talking |

Not only did he contradict himself, he -- his --- logic(?) was so disturbed that I had to post this post.
I agree, this place makes for a great reality check, unlike Rush, where they check their reality at the door.

8. "check their reality at the door"... spot on, that... |
|
seems to be a prerequisite for membership in 'the club'.
The fact that we're grounded in reality has been verified by this administration, who labled us "the reality-based community". I am a proud member of that coummunity -- the people who still support *, not so much.
That was what made me so happy about finding DU. I knew I wasn't alone. :hi:

9. Where are the rational conservatives? |
|
I'm with you on the CSPAN Washington Journal callers. There have been quite a few independent callers recently who really stop and make you think. It's clear they've been considering issues after reading and listening. And most of the liberal callers cite specifics and are knowledgable about all aspects of a topic. But the rightwing callers? Days go by without a rational caller. Instead, it's the "Bush is a good man. We need to support our president. (just not Clinton) We need to support the troops." And no details or background on the topic. Just more Bushian platitudes and nationalist fervor. Again, the missing piece is education. The rightwing is just sopping up like sponges whatever the rightwing media doles out without actually taking the time to seek sources. The lack of the ability to critically think is the telltale trait.

10. I know they exist. They HAVE to exist. |
|
if they don't exist, then our nation is doomed.
I don't mind conservatives. If they are conservative about governmental power to spy internally, conservative on protecting constitutional rights, and are conservative about invading nations, in that sense, WE HERE are conservative. It is the neocons who scare me.
