The tears of Robert Gates
Over and over again the media plays the same clip of Gates' voice breaking during a eulogy to a fallen soldier in Iraq.

Why?

Why have I seen this clip of Gates' repeatedly played -- yet again some 5 minutes ago -- when the American public isn't even allowed to see the coffins of the the fallen? What about the tears of their loved ones? What of the tears of the thousands upon thousands of men, women and children both here and in Iraq who have lost loved ones? Is the repetitive airing of Gates' emoting supposed to show us that he cares??

BULLSHIT!!!!!!!

Cry me a river, Mr. Gates, because the blood of thousands is on the hands of BushCo -- and that includes YOU, Mr. Gates. If you really gave a damn you'd be trying like hell to bring these men and women HOME.

So you and Boehner and Lieberman and Bushie and all your bloodthirsty, greedy cohorts can get up a shed a tear for the cameras but I call BULLSHIT -- and so should the media, who just can't seem to find any limit to their shame.

2. This morning on GMA, old Sam Donaldson made a bit of a caustic remark
about the Gates thing, talking about all the breaking down and crying goes on in the homes of those soldiers who have died in Iraq.

My god, is the MSM getting a bit of a spine at long last with this administration?

3. I believe Gates has a conscience, unlike the rest of the administration.
Would Rumsfeld have choked up? Gates has a real mess on his hands, and he's trying to walk a fine line between doing Chimpy's bidding, and steering a sinking ship away from even more icebergs. My husband (military officer) likes Gates--thinks he's doing the best he can with the shitty hand he inherited. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and acknowledge that he is genuinely torn up about the deaths of these soldiers. More so than the other loyal Bushies, at any rate.

4. Robert Gates was involved in covering up Iran Contra. He's
about as clean as Ollie North, Elliot Abrams and Death Squads Negroponte. If he's torn up about dead people, I'm the Wizard of Oz.

6. He's already made it known he does not want war with Iran, and
is working with Rice to foil Cheney's plans to start shit with them, according to what I've read in Newsweek and elsewhere. He was part of the Poppy Bush team/CIA, I undertand that he's not clean, but by the same token, he's probably the most competent "Bushie" that we can get as SecDef. That's not a ringing endorsement, but the fact is, the guy is respected by the military so far. I don't believe people are all-good or all-evil. If he can do SOME things right during his tenure, I won't condemn him. After all, he wasn't the one who ignored the generals and insisted on going into Iraq with a "lean" force, dismissed Abu Graib, and generally treated the military like shit. He got on Walter Reed and took appropriate action, enforced accountability, and that impressed me.

7. We can't go into Iran. We don't have the personnel. We can't
even staff Iraq. But, that wouldn't deter Dick Cheney who I'm sure still gets his information from Rumskull.
