If you are for impeachment, you owe a bit of thanks for the Third Reich's historical placement. |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 07:23 PM by truedelphi
I do NOT mean you should appreciate what the Third Reich did.
But perhaps appreciation is required for the fact that this rough and awful history can point out what we need to do at this point in time.
For it seems that again and again what those of us who want impeachment and want it now haVE IN THE BACK OF OUR MINDS IS THE COMPOSED FROM HINDSIGHT, PLAY BOOK AND COMPLETE OUTLINE OF HOW THE THIRD REICH CONQUERED THE wORLD
Some of those who are lukewarm about impeachment seem to think that we should just wait it out - because after all - the election cycle revs up next summer and elections will be held in 2008.
But those of us who want impeachment and want it now know better.
We were not MIHOPPED or LIHOPPED into 9/11 so that an election in 2008 will throw the bastards out.
We were not lied into the Iraq War so that the Powers that Be get the Bum's rush in November 2008.
We were not bystanders to Rove et al accomplishing the outing of a CIA operative - a treasonous act if ever there were one, just so that Rove et al could be led out of the WH post election 2008.
Nor was the election of 2004 stolen to spite the fact that those actions undertaken by the Bush Reich circa 2004-2007 will be destroyed come November 2008.
The spying, the torturing, the Constitution mangling and now the latest Executive Order decreeing that anyone who hinders the ecomomic consolidation of Iraq is the enemy- all these actions do not indicate a temperate Leadership that will simply walk off the stage January 20th, 2009.
We owe it to the Fifty Million who died in WWII to wake up and realize what is at stake here.
We owe it to ourselves to realize what is at stake.

2. I just want to make one thing clear without starting a 9/11 debate. |
|
Your post seems to assume that everyone who is for impeachment is a believer in MIHOP or LIHOP. That is very far from being true. I'm not posting this to start a 9/11 debate, just to point out that many, possibly most, of the pro-impeachment crowd are not believers in 9/11 conspiracy theories.

I was once a non-believer myself.
The important point is that we agree on impeachment.

6. Thanks for adding that. It isn't germane to this issue. |
|
It doesn't matter whether cheney/bushler leaves or not (well, of course it matters, but not to impeachment!), what matters is the Constitution they have shredded.
I can't believe that so many are so willing to ignore the Consitution for party "gain"!

3. That is what I believe |
|
as well and what weighs most heavily on me is the fact that you and I and many others here will turn out to be right and (unfortunately) it will also be after the fact before the majority of the country realize it. In other words, it will be too late. I am convinced by everything this admin does that they intend to continue as if the 2008 elections do not apply whether they happen or not. They were prepared to fight Al Gore in 2000 even if Florida did not go their way and they will concoct some pretense to overstay their term (for the good of the country of course) come 2009. So with these thoughts in mind, I wonder what the country at large will do should that eventuality present itself.

13. Good Question: What will the people at large do when this ugly truth becomes too overt to be denied? |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 08:22 PM by Wiley50
What will those of us who live mostly or solely on Social Security do
when Bush has his way to simply end all Social Security checks, cold turkey?
What of all of us on Medicaid and Medicare do when he decides to end those programs?
Will he round us all up as "Useless Eaters" and put us out our our misery?
What will we do when our children either go willingly into his armed forces
or are shot on the spot?
What will they do to those whose names are not on "approved" church membership roles?
You get my drift. How will this all manifest?
And will there be any way to stage an effective resistance?

17. Sadly they will end Soc Security whether or not the worst comes about |
|
The money has probably been "lent" to the wars we are fighting
But your notion of an approved "church" list - I thought of that subconsciously - that one is very scary Wiley Fifty.
And so very much of what they would do. Our future might well be in a nation under "Tyrannicus Theocraticus"

5. I have been saying for about 5 years now that they'd try to hold onto power |

People still look at me and shake their heads, which causes me to shake MY head. At least Mr. DTBK is sticking up for me and telling people that I have been right so far and will probably be right again, although I so desperately wish to be wrong on this.

NO. those who have seized the U.S. gubmint have decades and billions invested. NO WAY an "election" will compel them to turn over the reins. NO FUCKING WAY.

7. Your subject line seems so incongruent with the text of your OP. |
|
I agree that, learning from the behaviors of historical figures underlies support for impeachment. I don't even have to go back to the Third Reich to figure out that this administration should be impeached and charged with every damn crime each one has committed against this nation and her laws.
What's really effed up is,...this administration is run by former Nixon acolytes. THAT IS NUTS!!! And, while they are engaging in behaviors far more egregious than even Nixon would allow,...they are STILL getting away with it.
I imagine the frustration John Dean must live with every damn day,...observing the absurd when it comes to the "rule of law" which USE to help hold this democratic nation together.

15. It will focus the whole country on their crimes. No executive privledge claims, no |
|
stonewalling because it will only cause more pushback. If they are forced to show their hand early, the chances they are successful diminish greatly.
The longer we wait, the more likely we will be stuck with them for a long long time.

14. K&R My father was in WWII and lived to tell the tale. So let me... |

... tip my hat to you for continuing to tell the tale. If people really got it that we were terribly close to annihilation back then, and had to *fight* for our country, maybe the ho-hum memes we hear all the time would fall away.
