Should it be legal to handcuff a police officer? |
|
Suppose two people handcuff a police officer. The officer calls for help and two other police officers who happen to be nearby intervene. They handcuff the two people who handcuffed the officer.
The proceedings in front of a judge might be as follows:
Police officer: They handcuffed me!
Accused: Your co-workers handcuffed us!
Police officer: You handcuffed me first.
Accused: Yeah, but that doesn't give your co-workers the right to handcuff us.
Police officer: Yes it does.
Accused: No, it doesn't.
Police officer: Yes it does.
Accused: Okay, but who gave you the right to make faces at us? That's why we handcuffed you.
Police officer: I didn't make faces at you.
Accused: Yes, you did!
Police officer: No, I didn't!
Accused: Yes, you did!
Judge: All of you, accused and police officer, are like a bunch of little kids. Grow up!
Accused: Hey, police officer, help us handcuff the judge!
Judge: Wait a minute, now. That would be a serious criminal offense.

I am not only confused by this, but amused, baffled, and scared all at the same time.
