Rabbi Amy Roth, assistant director of Camp Ramah in the Berkshires, brings up an interesting point about lessons to be learned from the "Harry Potter" series (see page 10). Roth notes that despite Harry’s less-than-handsome appearance, ill-fitting clothes, and average abilities as a student, he was deemed "special." (Granted, the scar on his forehead had a lot to do with it.)

Where are the people we can look up to?

Not in sports. Star quarterback Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons has been indicted on charges related to dogfighting, and NBA referee Tim Donaghy is being investigated by the FBI for betting on games and providing information to others.

Not in government. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) is embroiled in a scandal linking him to a Washington escort service, while Attorney General Alberto Gonzales conceded Tuesday that he has not always been scrupulously candid with Congress.

Not in the entertainment industry. Does one even have to catalogue the inappropriate behaviors of Brittany Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Paris Hilton?
