What do we do with right-wing pundits when/if our national nightmare ends?
At the end of WWII, French citizens who collaborated with the Nazis had their heads shaved so their shame would be public and everyone would know who they were.

What I'm getting at here is, once we're rid of the Busheviks, (and assuming we can rebuild a sane, rational media), what, if anything, should we do about our home-grown collaborators? I'm talking about people like Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Coulter, Hannity, Savage, and all the others who were in league with, and who greatly profited from, those who tried to destroy our Constitution and steal our country?

These people betrayed our Constitution every bit as much as did Bush, Cheney, Gonzales, Rove, Rumsfeld, and all the rest on that long list of brutes and thugs. Perhaps, all that's left to us is to simply shun them, or maybe even shave their heads. But somehow, that seems insufficient and to lack any sense of justice.

So keeping in mind that we liberals are people who believe in freedom of speech, what do you think we should do (if anything) about those who aided and abetted the rape of our country?

for the next 10 years.

A good dose of indentured servitude would do these overly pampered syncophants a world of good.

8. Good answer!
Welcome to DU!

Yes, it would be good to show compassion for them for who they are. The hatred and lies they have spewed throughout the years have to have effected their physical and spiritual health.

7. Ignore them
deprive them of an audience by changing laws about media ownership so that more people can own networks and spread more points of view.

12. Do you really think the BFEE would make any room in the bunker for them?
These pundits have been useful tools, but let's face it. How long do you think anyone could spend in the presence of bottom feeders like Limbaugh, O'Reilly, or Coulter? Babs would probably have them fed to the piranhas and watch the feast while sitting by, sipping on a vintage wine.

Of course, Babs would never figure out that she and the rest of her brood were also bottom feeders and that someday, they all might be on the piranha's' menu.

14. Do the worst thing they can imagine. IGNORE THEM
No should give them a forum to spout off in. If you see one in person and they begin to talk as if they knew squat about squat.. laugh in their faces and walk away and find someone interesting and knowledgeable to talk to.

15. this is a truly important question- one
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 01:15 PM by Bluerthanblue
that everyone should take some time to seriously think about-

Lincoln saw the challenge that was ahead, and tried to face it correctly, but we all know how that worked out.

I don't think war ever ends- it just goes underground.

And the only way to avoid having to continually wage it, to have to always be fighting others, would be to attempt to do what Lincoln encouraged:

“I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends.”

peace,
blu

20. A noble and profound thought, blu. The problem is that it takes two sides to compromise.
The descendants of those who hated Lincoln -- and murdered him -- have held power for most of the past 35 or 40 years. And I truly believe that they'll never quit in their "crusade" until people who believe like us (i.e. liberals) are all dead and buried.

I'll be damned if I know how you can turn people like these into "friends."

23. if we can't find a way
to reach them- if we can't show them that they don't need to 'control' others, or dominate them- unless they want to continue this kind of "life"-

we need to prove that hoarding isn't necessary, that there is more than enough for everyone on this planet, that the quest for bigger, better, more- faster, flashier excesses still leaves us longing for fulfillment and sometimes we need to long for our desires so that we can experience the full joy of 'receiving'.

That we are a- ok absolutely acceptable humans, just as we are,- no need to prove anything to anyone, except oneself- That controlling others might make us feel important-strong-safe for a moment, but in the end it only creates 'adversaries' who need to get out from under us- and don't know anything better than to do unto us, what we did to them...

That death is not something we can avoid forever that it's unpredictable, sometimes cruelly random- but that living ones life obsessed by anything (safety, plenty, might) robs us of the chance to really LIVE- that people will always let us down, even when they don't intend to, if only by leaving us through death.

That we can never be 'perfect' but we shouldn't let that stop us if we want to be 'better'- that we need to find a way to live with the status quo, if we aren't willing to be wrong or disappointed.

That the best way to change others behaviour is to change our own individual actions. That no person is an island, and if they are, islands always welcome cast-aways, the lost and broken.

We can't neutralize acid by pouring more acid on it, that just destroys everything- we can't change rush, or * or cheney by adopting their mind-set,- when we allow that, then we really are defeated, and 'they' have succeeded in making the world less than what it not only can be, but must be, for humanity to matter.

sorry.... i'm having one of those days....---....
life's been

a little ..difficult-

peace,
blu

25. We have to keep a couple of them around for entertainment purposes.
Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Coulter, Beck, Kristol, and so on can all go get jobs at Wal-Mart. But we got to keep a couple of the lesser-known ones like Boortz and Savage around for the entertainment value alone.

26. Simple - they're not gonna leave, and there won't be any pogroms.
So what will happen is the kind of shit they pulled on Gray Davis in California: lots of "recall" elections and the like led by media personalities in collusion with corporate interests. Remember how the fringe right grew to gargantuan size and influence during Clinton's terms in office? When the Dem candidate claims the WH in 2009, watch for the massive RW noise machine to use their newly re-discovered "underdog" status to their advantage.

Just as Bush made Colbert, Stewart, Olbermann, et al. powerful, so will a Dem pres. make the O'Reillys, Scarboroughs, etc. just as powerful again, since they will have a clearly defined enemy with actual legislative and executive influence.
