Is this "strikingly bold?"
August 01, 2007

Obama Will Call for Redeployment of Troops

"In a strikingly bold speech about terrorism scheduled for this morning, Democratic presidential candidate Illinois Sen. Barack Obama will call not only for a withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, but a redeployment of troops into Afghanistan and even Pakistan -- with or without the permission of Pakistan President Pervez Musharra," according advance transcripts obtained by ABC News.

From the transcript: "I understand that President Musharraf has his own challenges, but let me make this clear. There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. It was a terrible mistake to fail to act when we had a chance to take out an al Qaeda leadership meeting in 2005. If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will."

1. I posted the AP article on the same speech
A great attack on Bush ineptitude and looks very Commander-in-Chief

Not sure how well it plays with the base of the party though.

2. what part did you think was significant?
I don't see anything 'striking' or 'bold' in this one blurb outside of him saying he wouldn't recognize Pakistan's sovereignty or border integrity in his pursuit of al-Qaeda. I'm not sure it's a good approach to commit right away to deploying troops into Pakistan without the permission of their government.

3. Yes, it is bold, and insightful.
He's telling us he understandswhere the terrorism is coming from and he intends to fight it. To quote him "We should be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were reckless going in". He realizes we attacked the wrong country and should be concentrating on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

6. That sounds like a politically centrist (moderate) approach
It really isn't all that striking to me, outside of committing to ignoring Pakistan's sovereignty as he 'fights terrorism'

The notion that a withdrawal from Iraq has to be done 'carefully' can translate on the ground into, perhaps, an unnecessarily prolonged involvement. And, I think his pronouncement that he would deploy troops into Pakistan, with or without the government's permission, could be seen as "reckless" rather than inviting positive definitions of "bold"

5. HUH!!!!!!!!!!!I thought that was the plan the democratic wants
I thought Hillary Clinton and John Edwards for two have already suggested that. AND I will find the articles and post them...I applaud Obama for wanting to get our troops out of Iraq. But why do people suggest this plan is original.
