I need my BATBOY! Weekly World News goes the way of the DODO.
*snip*

The tabloid's publisher, American Media Inc., issued a brief statement that announced the Aug. 27 issue would be Weekly World News' last. It called the closure necessary "due to the challenges in the retail and wholesale magazine marketplace that have impacted the newsstand."

1. Since the start of the Bush administration - the "real" news has become increasingly surreal
and Weekly World News can no longer keep up.

It's a pity, isn't it?

5. "I was Bigfoot's Love Slave"
That was always my favorite headline.

I remember one where heaven had been discovered by a 'Russian scientist'. The source was some Russian journal I could never find any other reference to.

They were always the best of the checkout tabloids.

Did they have the columnist Ed Anger?

I remember he was very angry he couldn't get any Swiss Miss cocoa when he traveled to Switzerland.

I'm really sorry to see them go.

17. One of my favorite things to do was go through the WWN
and try and find the article that was actually true. There was always at least one.

How do I know this?

Because my friends were in an issue back in 1996. Here's the text:

"Naked accordion player arrested in laundromat!

Hancock, Mich. - Shocked patrons called the police when a naked man began playing the accordion in a laundromat while four pals danced to the music in their underwear. Cops say the five college students - including two coeds - put on the wacky show at about 3 a.m. , when the laundromat was almost empty. But two women who witnessed the bizarre scene were offended and called the authorities. Officials declined to prosecute the young mischief-makers."

That was the aftermath of a party at my house, which was across the street from the laundromat.
