Cheney's Unmistakable Admission

He as good as admitted it.

In an interview yesterday, CNN's Larry King asked Vice President Cheney if he dispatched Alberto Gonzales and Andy Card to a Washington hospital room to pressure a sedated John Ashcroft, then attorney general, to approve surveillance techniques that Ashcroft's subordinates had concluded were illegal.

Cheney's response?

"THE VICE PRESIDENT: I don't recall -- . . . I don't recall that I gave instructions to that effect.

"Q That would be something you would recall.

"THE VICE PRESIDENT: I would think so. But certainly I was involved because I was a big advocate of the Terrorist Surveillance Program, and had been responsible and working . . . to get it to the President for approval. By the time this occurred, it had already been approved about 12 times by the Department of Justice. There was nothing new about it.

"Q So you didn't send them to get permission.

"THE VICE PRESIDENT: I don't recall that I was the one who sent them to the hospital."

Have you ever heard such a non-denial denial? ......

1. He really doesn't see anything wrong .....
in his behaviour or his "ideals."

Folks like this are dangerous.

8. Do they KNOW they wll be next to god in heaven soon, or some such justification.
Who knows what these politicos really believe??

I've been told by religious believers that I would burn in Hell eternally for accepting evolutionary theory.

Belief systems are particularly dangerous in combination with political power.
Especially, if you believe this is just a transitory world and the real one is metaphysical.
Worse still, believing you are god's instrument in this world. Didn't Bush make that claim?

2. Here's the way to translate that comment:
"I don't recall" and what it means.

  • To you and me: "I don't recall."

  • To Gonzo: "I'm sorry, but I wasn't listening to the question. I'm in complete panic right now, and I simply cannot focus."

  • To most politicians: "If I answered you truthfully, someone important to me might go to jail."

  • To Darth Cheney: "I can't say 'Go fuck yourself' on television, and that's the only answer you're getting."

5. "I don't recall that I gave instructions to that effect."
The instructions were to another effect which he will never admit to. Cheney told Card & Gonzo to get Asscroft to sign the Documents & not to mention that what Asscroft was going to sign would be Illegal Spying. That amounts to a Criminal Act. Will Congress ever be able to prove that?

4. I wish
some number cruncher would go over the records and calculate number of the "I can't recall. . ." statements over recent months.

Would any of us get away with that in a court of law. . .?

Selective amnesia is apparantly now a prerequisite for alleged "public service." Yikes

7. Well, he could legitimately not recall. As in:
I was so deeply involved in that illegal conspiracy that I really cannot distinguish between my actions and those of my co-conspirators.

9. By 2008, the average US citizen will have learned how to deny anything
and still make it sound really good. Lead by example, right?

Has anyone asked what impact this administration is having on our children?
Perhaps, a generation of highly skilled liars is what to expect!

10. "I don't recall that I was the one who sent them to the hospital."
Of course he didn't. He had someone else send them, probably Scooter. This is how they get around all the crap.

He just called Gonzo a liar, too. Gonzo is trying to push a story that there were different programs.

Well, shoot, Cheney just isn't backing him up.

13. If at first to set out to deceive, it can really get confusing to keep up the ruse!
Are they loosing it. Maybe there is too much lead in the DC water. Seriously!

Can we run a correlation analysis of years in DC with "I do not recalls"?

14. "...gave instructions to that effect"
Translation: I didn't specifically tell anyone to go to a hospital. But what I did say was to do whatever the hell was necessary THAT NIGHT to get this signed. I don't want or need details, and I'm not going to provide them, just GET IT DONE.

I think that's how he operates anyway. Remember when Libby asked Cheney if he wanted to know what he told the FBI, and Cheney "waved his hand" like "no, I'd rather not know"

Plausible deniability.

15. Cheney has a 'twitch'..
..it seems to cause him to 'conveniently' forget or not be able to 'recall' all the fucking shit he and his posse of criminals has done!

Obviously numb nuts has a metal impediment of astronomical proportions. fuck Cheney and the dumb one too!

17. I guess LK should have asked
"And what if you wanted to recall."

I don't recall is just a way to say that you aren't going to recall something. It doesn't mean that he forgot. It just means he isn't going to go through the trouble to recall something.

Anyway that's how it sounds to me. Officer I don't recall taking that $20,000 bribe.
