Obama indecisive on nuclear weapons - what the hell is he saying? |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-03-07 07:35 AM by Herman Munster
So Obama is saying nuclear weapons are OK as long as it's not against civilians?????????????
---
In an interview with the Associated Press today, Barack Obama said he would not use nuclear weapons “in any circumstance” to fight terrorism in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
“I think it would be a profound mistake for us to use nuclear weapons in any circumstance,” Mr. Obama said, with a pause, “involving civilians.” Then he quickly added, “Let me scratch that. There’s been no discussion of nuclear weapons. That’s not on the table.”

1. The more he drops in the polls the sillier he gets. |
|
He only has himself to blame for all this. If he had not listened to the people who told him to jump into the presidential race so early, he would have been able to get a real campaign platform going. He would have been able to find out what the people want, what this country needs.
Remember he was the first one to announce he was running for the nomination.

and can't control what comes out of his mouth. This is what worries me about him in the general election. The republicans will pounce on every misstep.

He said he wouldn't use nuclear weapons against civilians and then quickly reflected on it and clarified.
Big deal.
Talk about grasping at straws.

He has restated he will not use nuclear weapons on terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The scratch remark is used all the time, reporters are supposed to respect it. In this case, a reporter leaked his remarks, and didn't add the qualifier that the question was about terrorist targets in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The danger is from whoever is willingly stirring up international fervor for a cheap political stunt.

4. he just doesn't have a personal reservoir of knowledge to draw from |

on some of these critical foreign policy issues. I think he's way too comfortable in his ability to handle these questions and hasn't done enough homework to prepare.
The other thing I'm sensing is a tendency to draw on mainstream responses which may not mesh with other pronouncements he's made. The doesn't seem to be a cohesive understanding of these important issues. Just my impression though.

7. Only Dick Cheney and terrorist would use nukes on innocent folk |

Perhaps HRC too. She is too "presidential" to do the right thing. Might makes right my friend.
