Secretary of State Debra Bowen to make announcement tonight on California voting machines.
Voting machines just not secure enough to guarantee a trustworthy 2008 presidential primary election. Secretary of State Debra Bowen expected to make announcement shortly.
By Valarie Grant and Ed Ely
Friday, August 3, 2007

Secretary of State Debra Bowen is expected to announce which voting machines will be certified for use in California's 2008 presidential primary elections. According to the "Source Code Review of the Diebold Voting System", voting machines are not secure enough to guarantee a trustworthy election. In fact, it would be surprisingly simple to derail the entire process. The University of California at Berkeley report says just one single skilled individual with temporary access to just one voting machine could compromise an election. The report was commissioned by the California Secretary of State as part of a two month extensive review of electronic voting systems certified for use in California

8. Have you seen this?

It looks like they are coming in for an attack from all angles. If cheating on the voting machines becomes derailed, it seems they have a new plan to grab our electoral votes.

3. The voting machine companies ES&S and Diebold want complete control.
Edited on Fri Aug-03-07 10:23 PM by GreenTea
Who gives a shit how long it takes (besides the republicans and the TV networks) making sure EVERY vote is properly and accurately counted is far more important than speed!

Anyway, there's always over 2 1/2 month's before they take office in January after the election anyway, so speed is NOT a priority...accuracy IS!

If we get machines to spit out paper receipts, or touchscreens that one reads on the screen, correctly just as one has voted, and the receipt that one receives might also read exactly as one has voted...

BUT, that doesn't mean the machine that the electronic voting machine that Diebold OWNS will record it on the main memory as you voted and that you think you have a receipt for...And once it's in the memory, that's how it will be counted 'officially" and very easily hackable.

The electronic voting machine companies want complete control, citing software infringement...bullshit...they want to be able to cheat plain & simple...That's exactly what the republicans bullshit Help America Vote Act (HAVA) the republicans wrote it and they rammed it through in 2002...

Should corporations in this case two admitted republican owned corporations, DieBold and ES&S own our vote. Corporations should NOT be able to own and control our vote.

We pay for the machines, the people should own them...but the republicans are holding strong, AGAIN, citing that DieBold and ES&S should be able to secretly own and control the software uh....copyright infringement they say...bullshit, this is our vote and we own the machines and should demand to know what they are actually recording as fact. No way to challenge the machines accuracy or software, we aren't allowed anyway.

The Holt bill will NOT ensure that our vote will be correctly counted by these machines that are now placed in 90% of the precincts in the country just waiting to be manipulated for the 2008 elections.

PAPER BALLOTS AND AUDITS ARE THE ONLY ABSOLUTE WAY TO ASSURE ACCURACY WHEN VOTING OR A RECOUNT...MANY REPUBLICANS IN DIFFERENT STATES ARE FIGHTING THIS SITING IT'LL TAKE TOO LONG, WHO GIVES A FUCK, OUR AND ACCURACY ARE FAR MORE IMPORTANT - OR WE ALREADY PAID FOR THE MACHINES, AGAIN, WHO GIVES A FUCK THAT YOU PAID FOR MACHINES THAT CAN VERY EASILY BE HACKED AND THAT HAS BEEN PROVED TIME AND TIME AGAIN!

THE HOLT BILL ASSURES ALMOST NOTHING. ONLY PAPER BALLOTS CAN ASSURE THIS -- Accuracy is far more important than speed.

I recall you used to always respond to my threads on DU in CA forum (2006 election) when I wrote over and over and over about Debra Bowen race for SoS was, as I put it, the most most important race in the whole country, because Rove & the republicans want to steal CA with APPOINTED McPherson as SOS, the republican owned machines, etc. etc...in fact Bowen actually used a lot of what I wrote to her in her final campaign donation drive. But I don't expect you to acknowledge it...I was just always happy you were there responding when few others would!

And, thank you so much for your help in getting Debra elected. Imho, that was the most important race of 2006. I so agree with you about the importance of that race.

15. Christine Craft's TalkCity progran is being broadcast on Peter B Collins affiliate stations
while he is on vacation. I'm a regular listener to Christine's program, and Brad Friedman, a good friend of Christine, is on quite often. He used to joke about having to sneak into Sacramento to avoid Arnie's goons. He is always a good interview subject.

16. The Peter B Collins Show -
Right now Collins is on from Portland down to Monterey. When he gets a Seattle and San Diego affiliate, (which I'm sure he will) he then will truly have the whole "Left Coast".

Pretty impressive & powerful for a liberal/progressive independent.

And Collins is truly one of the best! Brad is on his show every Friday night 5 to 6.
