Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar Have 17th Child, Still Want More
Arkansas Couple Has 17th Child, Still Want More
Friday , August 03, 2007

LITTLE ROCK — An Arkansas couple had a baby daughter Thursday — their 17th child and seventh girl — and the pair say they're still not ready to give it a rest. Jennifer Danielle was born at 10:01 a.m. at a hospital in Rogers, Arkansas, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar said in an interview. "We'd love to have more," Michelle said, referring to baby girls. "We love the ruffles and lace."

Jennifer joins the fast-growing Duggar brood, who live in a 7,000-square-foot home in Tontitown. All the children — whose names start with the letter J — are taught at home. The oldest is 19 and the youngest, before Jennifer, is almost 2 years old. "We are just so grateful to God for another gift from him," said Jim Bob Duggar, a former state representative. "We are just so thankful to him that everything went just very well."

Jennifer joins siblings: Joshua, 19; John David, 17; Janna, 17; Jill, 16; Jessa, 14; Jinger, 13; Joseph, 12; Josiah, 11; Joy-Anna, 9; Jedidiah, 8; Jeremiah, 8; Jason 7; James 6; Justin, 4; Jackson, 3; Johannah, almost 2.

The Duggars have been featured on several programs on cable television's Discovery Health Network. The next special, the Duggar Family Album, is scheduled to air next month, Jim Bob Duggar said. Among the "fun facts" listed on Discovery Health's Web page devoted to the Duggars: A baby has been born in every month except June; the Duggars have gone through an estimated 90,000 diapers, and Michelle has been pregnant for 126 months — or 10.5 years — of her life.

Hey, Lady: While you were squeezing out yet another mouth to feed into this already over-extended world, did you ever think about adopting a kid who was already stuck here? One would think it would be the right honorable Christian thing to do.

6. Amen! Quit the breeding!
There are a million children in this world looking for loving parents. Unless the folks are both Nobel prize winners, they should be ADOPTING the children who whould love to have a family!!!

4. Thanfully, they've used up all but 4 "J" names in existence...
so they'll either be forced to stop at 21, or name their 22nd child Kumquat.

10. I guess I'm confused
why the animosity?

They have not come out as antigay or anti anything.

They appear to just live their life, they arent on welfare, who cares how many kids they have? Its their life.

17. Here's Why
I Actually Think It's evil, small "e"...

I'm a children's advocate. They cannot possibly give each child the individual care a child needs. It's pathological. Something is wrong with these people.

...and this earth already, as Paul Simon says, groans each time another child is born. We are rapidly running out of resources. That isn't a myth. Population control is important.

...and they kind of...well...crude of me...but it's like insects or something. It kind of turns my stomach.

Someone needs to neuter these people.

Lee

22. Someone needs to tell that woman

...that she doesn't need to use all of her eggs.

I agree, they can't possibly give each child the individual care that they need. I have a friend who came from a family of ten and she didn't get the attention that she needed. In fact children #4-#10 didn't and the older ones raised the younger ones.

Cheers

15. Carlos Mencia, a comedian, had a bit in his stand-up
routine a few years.

He remarked that he was the youngest of 16 children and he swears that when he was born, his mother vagina was more like a slip-n-slide. Hee-hee.

18. I've talked to kids from families with 6 siblings who lament
...the fact that they never had a mother...she was always busy with the latest kid. My friend attributes all of the in-fighting and feuds among the kids to the fact that there was not enough parental time to devote to six children. As one of three, I can see how that happens. I felt really sorry for an 80-year-old man from Arkansas who was one of 11 and always wanted attention from parents who had too many children to give enough individual attention to each.

This mother needs to eat tons of fish between kids to ensure that they have adequate brain power. Unfortunately, with coal-power plants sending mercury (becomes methy-mercury) into our waterways and oceans where it it consumed by plankton and moves up the foodchain, she'd poison her kids with mercury.

26. My father was from a large family
he was the youngest of eight and was bascially raised by his older sister. This was long ago (my father is in his 80's) when large families were more common. My grandmother was a wonderful person very sweet but she didn't have that much time and energy so the older girls looked after my father especially the one in particular. This older sister even took my father with her when she left home and was traveling. My father always had a warmer relationship with his sister and a more formal one with his mother.

25. I thought of an idea for Jim Bob
My supervisor in the Navy had the idea when his wife had their second child. He asked for the afterbirth so he could take it home and freeze. If his wife mentioned she wanted another child, he'd take out the afterbirth and hit her with it. The doctor denied his request.
