Putting the lie to "the troops support the war" again...Accused deserter caught
Accused deserter caught in Parsippany (NJ)

PARSIPPANY -- A 19-year-old Parsippany resident wanted for desertion from the U.S. Marine Corps was arrested Wednesday by local police and was picked up Thursday by the Marines at the Morris County jail.

Michael B. Silva was found by Parsippany police hiding in a closet at his family's apartment around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Sgt. Yvonne Christiano. Silva's brother, Eugene Silva, 24, invited five Parsippany police officers into their Troy Hills Village apartment, denying that his brother was there and that he had any knowledge of his whereabouts, Christiano said.

The brother allowed the officers to search the apartment's main bedroom, where they then heard a commotion in the closet, she said. The officers ordered Silva to exit the closet, which he did without resistance, Christiano said.

According to a Web page available through Camp Lejeune's Web site, Silva's company was in Iraq in November 2006. A story posted by a Lance Cpl. Erik Villagran shows a photo of Lance Cpl. Michael B. Silva, identified as a "rifleman" searching a vehicle for weapons. The story says the Marines in his battalion were conducting a search of a garage complex in Saqlawiyah, Iraq, believed to be linked to insurgents.

1. Damn it, so sad. :(
He should have fled the country. Then again, I am pretty sure even prison is better (and safer) than being sent to Iraq.

nothing from his tour in Iraq? House to house searching and all...

I can understand wanting to come home, yet home would be the first place to look. He should have gone anywhere else. Poor guy. I wonder if we'll hear much of anything about him from this point on?
