What structural failure would do the most damage in your area of the country? |
|
I'm in Austin, and there are a couple of dams that could collapse and wipe out half the town and several smaller towns downstream. We've already seen what could happen in New Orleans.
Dams, bridges, levees, elevated roadways, earthworks, buildings... What is your home territory's worst case scenario?

1. There have already been many water main ruptures in Atlanta |
|
that cause HUGH holes in the street and loss of water for a lot of people, but I live about 3 miles from the dam that retains the water supply for Atlanta and many more areas. If something were to happen to that dam, God help almost all of Atlanta!

2. heh -- I was gonna say the entire Atlanta downtown dropping into a sinkhole |
|
I'm always nervous driving down there.
Any damage to the 75 north/south would REALLY screw up my area. But they always seem to be working on bits of it.
Tom Price even has an earmark for a road in Cobb County that is as smooth as a baby's bottom. It's for 6.8 MILLION dollars! For a road that DOESN'T need work! Of course, all his Lexus driving contributors live in THAT area.

. . . freeway bridge in Los Angeles. It's so overcrowded on the edge now that any damage to the infrastructure could shut the whole mess down.

7. Detroit has a major tunnel and a bridge to Canada |
|
The collapse of either would be rather nasty loss of life. The bridge would be a major economic blow as it is a primary route of trucks into the US for a lot of imports.

8. I thinking the structure of my |

government is causing the most damage. Until we can rid the Congress and Senate of its obligation to PAC's and corporations, we will continue to endure the corrosion.

10. We had a failure of this sort back in the SIxties, when the Silver Bridge |
|
in Point Pleasant, West Virginia fell one evening in December. The 35W bridge was a lot larger, but our tragedy was nonetheless horrifying.
My prayers to the good folk in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

13. Probably the nuclear power plant downstate would be the worst. |
|
There's one in Central Florida, and I think there another almost equidistant from here up in Alabama or Georgia, I forget. Those would be the worst, I think.
