Bowen under the gun for decertifying rigged voting machines: write news editors & legislators
to show her broad public support.

Find your CA legislators here:
http://www.legislature.ca.gov/port-zipsearch.html

If you don't live in CA, send one of our local pols a letter and say you WISH your secretary of state would do what Bowen did.

This is the email I got on this:

__________________________________________________________

This message was sent by your California for Democracy organizer,
Vicki Cosgrove.

Dear Michael,

Our SOS Debra Bowen is on the hot seat for decertifying hackable
electronic voting machines. We've got to support her and there is no
better group of people to do that than DFA and California for
Democracy. PLEASE send a letter, there's clear direction below. And
pass this along to your list. Let's MAKE SOME NOISE!
***************************************************

Election Reform Alert from Jerry Berkman of election-reform.org.

As a result of her Top-To-Bottom review of voting systems, Secretary
of State Bowen last Friday issued orders for most of the voting
systems used in California.

The orders first decertified the systems, then recertified them with
additional conditions. The most widely discussed is that with Diebold
and Sequoia systems, Counties may have only one touchscreen voting
machine per polling place, because they are unsafe. Hart Intercivic
systems do not have this restriction. There are many other
conditions, for a summary, see:

http://election-reform.org/california_review/scorecard.html

As expected, she is getting a lot of opposition from the Registrars
and machine vendors. Most of the major newspapers are reporting on
this negatively. She needs our support. Write a letter to the editor
of your local newspaper.

For details on writing letters to the editor, go to:

http://election-reform.org/letter_re_decert.html

Thanks.

1. Good idea. Part of the problem is the papers.
Edited on Wed Aug-08-07 12:42 PM by sfexpat2000
The SF Chronicle already slammed her on Sunday -- just as it was instrumental in sliming Kevin Shelley out of office.

Btw: the slam story was on line and had a comments' section. POST TO THESE when you find them. Push back!

13. Wiggins is taking calls. And they're quite appeciative.
I was a bit taken by the enthusiastic understanding the caller had when I called to support Bowen's decertification.

Boy, they sure get it. And it sounds like they're dying for more support. They took my name.

15. Here's mine - sent to the SD Tribune
Thank you, SOS Debra Bowen, for having the courage of your convictions to decertify California's hackable electronic voting machines. Our democracy hangs by the slimmest of threads after six-plus years of dictatorship rule by neocon thugs with dreams of empire. Using voting machines produced and maintained by these same neocon manipulators has proven time and again to be an exercise in madness, as we trust our election process to those with zero respect for it. We need more politicians with integrity to stand up for clean elections, so we might finally have one after 7 horrendous years.

35. A great explosion of stinky slime.
Some of it: :wow:

(OMG, John Tuteur, did someone insult your mistress?)

And of course the SJ Mercury went calling Bev.

Sigh. But we already knew what was crawling around in there before Bowen pried the lid off...

The fight is not done. These machines are not fit to count our votes, and there are good solid technical reasons that they never will be. Invisible votes are not secure, and toilet paper printer outputs cannot take the place of individual paper ballots.

30. My letter to LA TIMES: pick on purchasers on rigged machines not Bowen
Debra Bowen's decision to decertify all electronic voting machines was entirely justified based not just on her review, but the experience of voters all over the country when election results didn't match exit polls, and studies done by major universities like the UC one Bowen relied on, but also Princeton, Johns Hopkins, and Caltech among others.

I care more about my vote counting than some hack county clerk squealing like a stuck pig because they were caught buying machines than can rig votes. Those who approved the purchases and the companies themselves should be criminally investigated and prosecuted.
