Straight and addicted to LOGO.....
Edited on Fri Aug-10-07 08:54 AM by marmar
A lot of my fellow breeders discovered LOGO for the first time last night, watching the presidential candidates forum. Before that, many of my friends, all of whom are politically liberal, would say they really didn't have a reason to watch an LGBT-oriented television network.
That's too bad. I've been watching it for over a year now, and it's been eye-opening and enlightening. Like any MTV-owned network, there is plenty of crap programming. But the documentaries are often exceptional, and have educated me (and I'd like to think I've always been relatively aware of LGBT issues): Daddy and Papa was an intimate and amazing potrait of gay dads; There was a special on yesterday about gay black men "on the down low," who maintain essentially dual lives; There was a great special on gay people living in rural America; plus LOGO re-airs the excellent PBS series "In the Life."
I really wish more heteros, on DU and everywhere else, had access to LOGO, or would watch if they do have access to LOGO. I think a lot of the opposition to equal marriage and adoption (Not all - some people are irretrievably bigoted) would melt away. "Daddy and Papa" in particular moved me - seeing black children stuck in the foster care system and considered "unadoptable" adopted by gay men, despite the children's health problems and other complications. Even the "But the Bible says..." crowd would have to reconsider after taking that in.

1. Way cool. Have you seen "We are Dad"...?
Maybe 'Daddy and Papa' is a continuation of the story of the same family...

3. Where else can you see things like "Tales of the City?"
If I restricted my viewing to nothing but inoffensively straight white people, I'd be bored to death.

We all live here and we all have great stories. LOGO is just one more place to find them.
