OH yes! Let's encourage people to buy into the Stock Market right now! |
|
These guys never give up --on the outside chance they can entice another sucker to part with his money!
How can the CNBC pundits encourage people to invest in the market right now, when the rich have already pulled out and are waiting for it to hit bottom?

2. The rich haven't pulled out |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-10-07 10:47 AM by Warpy
but you can bet they've been dumping hedge funds and other extremely high risk holdings for the last year.
Indexed to inflation, the market is slightly undervalued right now.
Remember, paper profit on stock certificates is only part of the story. The rest of the story is dividend income.
On edit: Let me know if it drops to 9000. That's when I'm going shopping.

20. in fact, I think its the rich who are waiting for it to bottom out so they can buy it up real cheap |
|
They have the money to burn, and the market will reach a point where it eventually has nowhere to go but up. So all they have to do is wait.
And it might even work out to be a nice little tax shelter

10. LOL --are you picky where your box will be located? If so could be a problem.... |
|
However, right now there are still some 'prime spots' for locating your box home --but you better hurry!

5. A few months ago, some of the talking heads were saying it was a great time to buy... |
|
... sub-prime lenders! Yes, because this bubble thing was limited, contained, no big deal and the shares in these companies could be snapped up at bargain rates.
And, while yer at it, buy a couple of the big investment firms, too, 'cause there's NO WAY they're gonna feel even a twinge from this sub-prime thing!
And just today I heard someone say now's the time to buy home-builders. Bargains everywhere!

6. Actually I'm going to be buying in the market next week |
|
But I'm going to be investing in wind energy, biodiesel, and other such alternatives some of which are overseas. There are certain areas that are still good values.

some stock I had wanted that are now lower. If they don't go back up it will be a bad move, if they do, good for me.

19. Yes, there are actually many ways to do so |
|
You can invest in multi national companies like Vivendi and others who are seriously into water. You can invest in companies that bottle water. You can also, most likely, invest in your local water district or provider via muni funds or other such investment instruments.

9. Maybe not right this minute, |
|
however, it is a good idea to buy stocks when they are generally low and possibly undervalued. I don't know that I'd buy right now. I don't think the market is through bottoming out. I would wait until it has mostly finished sliding.
I already have stocks, so I will hold what I've got and wait to sell until I recoup the money I've lost. That could be a year or two.

No matter the health of the market, if everyone put all cash into the market (including SS funds) the exact same pressures of PQ = MV would occur in the market. Everything would get overvalued, the same as with inflation, and only the people holding stock now would benefit. Eventually, when the overvaluation corrects, people would lose tons of cash.
It's a bad idea, from a theoretical perspective, no matter if the market is bull or bear, if the economy is boom or bust. The Professor

16. Is there really ANY foundation to the stock market? Any real economic factors that affect it? |

It seems so obviously manipulated (read Enron) that even I can see the newest manipulation--and I'm a middle-class English Ed grad...
