1. Murray is a POS...
...as far as I am concerned and ANY thing that looks like concern about what happened IMO is as phony as a $3-dollar bill.

Fuck him and fuck those who gave approval for this kind of shit.

if he had approval from the Federal government.

5. IMO...
...because if you know of a danger and you continue EVEN if federal regs or any law say it is OK, the fact that you have actual knowledge of a dangerous situation and you put someone in that situation and there is a death....that IMO is a criminally negligent homicide that is NOT excusable or justified.

7. From how he's been acting, I don't think he's so confident
No matter what happens, I think he's going to land in court with the families. And who knows where that could lead.

but remember he said that if they're dead this was merely his god's will as a result of that 'earthquake' which strangely only affected the walls and not the roof of the mine according to one 'expert'.

These criminal corporations need religion or their workers would deal with their owners. It's always either a miracle or god's will - never their criminal negligence.

Add.

14. What he says vs a jury is what matters
I just don't think a jury will be sympathetic to his argument. This disaster comes on the heels of a number of mining disasters. Taking that into consideration, I think his goose is on its way to being cooked.

Three construction workers were killed in another mine on Friday. They have received very little coverage. These corporations own the media.

4. Yeah....
....the earthquake caused the cave-in. what total BS! IMO, he KNEW from the very start that the kind of mining technique going on is what caused this.

What a lying POS....he NEEDS to be in jail for murder or at least manslaughter.

12. Yeah, I have to agree....
...at a minimum, IMO, I would say manslaughter, but I could even go 2nd degree murder, depending on the criminal statutes in Utah. IMO, in CA, it could be charged as a 2nd degree murder.

<snip>
Murray has also used the spotlight to:

* Deny reports that a type of mining called retreat mining, that many safety experts warn adds danger to an already dangerous underground workplace, was being used at the Utah mine. But federal safety officials confirm retreat mining has been used at Crandall Creek.
* Dispute scientists who say that seismographic readings at the time of the collapse came from the magnitude of the collapse, not an earthquake that caused the collapse.
* Attack reporters and accuse them of posing questions provided by the Mine Workers (UMWA).
* Rant against the UMWA and its leaders, saying the union wants organize his workforce and “want to damage Murray Energy, Utah American and the United States coal industry for their own motives.”

9. Do any of these people actually know anything about coal mining?
I'm not a miner, never have been one, but you could not possibly live here for 30 years and not learn a bit about it. This 'retreat mining' they keep talking about as being the most dangerous thing since off-shore crab fishing and smoking crack is really common place and no more dangerous than any other mining method - probably safer in some ways.

13. "The most dangerous type of mining ... "
WASHINGTON — The method of mining used at the Utah mine that collapsed Monday, trapping six miners, has a history of being disproportionately deadly, according to federal safety studies.

The Crandall Canyon mine collapse happened while miners were engaged in a method called "retreat mining," in which pillars of coal are used to hold up the roof in an area of the mine. When that area is completely mined, the company pulls the pillars and grabs the useful coal, causing an intentional collapse.

It is "the most dangerous type of mining there is," said Tony Oppegard, a former top federal and Kentucky mine-safety official who is now a private attorney in Lexington, Ky., representing miners.

According to the American Society of Safety Engineers, retreat mining requires precise planning and sequencing to ensure roof stability while the pillars supporting the roof are removed.

18. I think its great that the guy said that, but its pure horseshit
Yes, it does indeed require precise planning and sequencing to ensure roof stability, but the 'precise planning and sequencing' is a necessary part of that type of mining and goes hand in hand with it. If you aren't doing that 'precise planning and sequencing' you aren't doing retreat mining - what you are doing is cutting unsupported pillares out from under a conventional mine. The two are not the same thing. When its done correctly it is safer than conventional mining.

By the way, that 'precise planning and sequencing' that they are talking about has almost nothing to do with roof falls other than that they are expected to take place immediately. The planning and sequencing is really a matter of keeping a channel open for coal to be taken out of the mine and for men and machinery to go in and out. Basically you're backing out of a hole and letting it cave in as you leave it. In this case it was the conventional mine that was between where the retreat mining was taking place and the shaft out that caved in. See what I mean, the problem was not with the retreat area, it was with the conventionally mined area. And that is what I meant when I asked if any of these clowns knew what they were talking about - because it sure doesn't look like it.

24. Note How This Story Has Faded
I really haven't seen much coverage the past couple days. What reports I have seen involve Murray spinning.

He's trying to make this story fade away...drag things out until the coporate media gets bored and looks for another dead blonde or drunk Hollywood star or some other diversion. Then Murray will quietly seal the mine and the truth will be buried within.

His money has bought silence and allowed him to control the story...a shaming indictiment as to how corrupt our corporate media has become.

28. Nothing Worse Than Pissed Off Miners...
I finally heard a radio report...said they found the air quality in that new shaft to be of poor quality...also that they haven't seen or heard with their little robot probe. Now where does this story go? I'm betting Murray tries to buy a few more days..."getting our search teams down there" and crap like that...sure that he's now drifted off to Page 15 or beyond.

Of all these messes, I think the Minneapolis bridge collapse will have more resonance...even, sadly, over NOLA. It's because almost everyone drives a bridge and the question about safety is everywhere. People I know talk about this bridge or that one as being bad...as well as this road or that crumbling power plant or other part of the infastructure...and many, if not most, realize that the tax cuts for the rich and the Repugnicans mantra of "all government is bad" is starting to bite them in the ass.

30. Yes the Minneapolis bridge collapse has given
the tax cuts for the rich posse some very troubled waters. Those vilifying government's role in providing infrastructure won't even be able to dig up ads suggesting that risking citizens' lives on unsafe bridges is of any national value (coal is so good for you).
I have this feeling that when it comes to bridges, the people will not 'be laying me down'.

31. I've Already Got the TV Ad Scripted...
Picture of Palwenty...saying how he has cut taxes
Piture of the bridge collapse
Picture of Normie Coleman hugging Grover Norquist with Grover's infamous bathtub quote highlighted...
Picture of search teams in the river looking for bodies
Picture of Michelle Baumann doing the schoolgirl swoon around his assholiness
Picture of a family's funeral...with voices of the survivors describing how they never could believe a bridge would fall

Boooshie not only wants to push for more cuts, but be assured he's gonna try to ram through making his tax cuts to the rich permanent...they sunset in 2010. The tax code already is gonna be a wild ride for many as the tax rates will go back to where they were in 2001...and be assured this will be a major concern for the GOOP.

The more Democrats explain how boooshie's tax cuts turned into crumbled bridges, poor schools, substandard healthcare and massive corruption, the closer we come to seeing the Repugnican party disintigrate down Grover's bathtub.

Cheers...
