America's Incompetence Obvious In Rescue Fiascos |
|
Perhaps I am wrong, but it seems to me that we used to be much better at coming up with solutions to rescue people quickly after a disaster. I remember questioning why I would need 3 days worth of water in stock for use after an earthquake because I was certain the country would come to our aid quickly. Now, I am not sure a 3 month supply would be adequate.

Don't depend on government because they'll screw it up. I have a suspicion this mine owner is screwing up the rescue because he thinks he knows best and won't use the best technology available because, well gee, technology is suspect. I can't figure out what took so long to call those Navy divers into Minneapolis. It just seems to me that when we lost our sense of national community, we also lost the ability to ask for help. Kind of like Russia and the submarine accident. Our strength was always in our willingness to implement a good idea no matter where it came from. Now, if we didn't think of it ourselves, then that means we're weak and incompetent and we can't let anybody know. And worse than that, we can never never be so bad off that we have to go to, gasp, the government.
Republicanism just doesn't work, on any level.
