On C-Span, Arlen Specter just threatened to shut the government down on Feb15 if... |
|
They don't get their amendments to the non-binding resolution.
Why didn't Harry Reid fight this hard when he was in the minority?
These Republican bastards know no shame.
Enough bullshit. End this fucking war, and impeach this motherfucking president we have...
Do the Democrats have the will to do this? I'm starting to think they fucking don't.

5. Well, the last time the repugs shut down the government Big Dog |
|
called their bluff and they ended up tucking their tails between their legs. Don't know what ramifications it will have if the repugs shut the government down with a repug president but I can't believe this will be good for them.
Any ideas how this will play out in the public if the repugs shut it down?

...is that the major backlash will be towards the Republicans. Debate it and vote....they can always vote against it.

when they were fighting Clinton? Makes me wonder if they didn't learn anything from that?

That's the stake in the heart that Spector is hammering into the Republicons in the Senate, with his threat.

I am willing to wait more than a month before I judge them all completely. But I agree that with the exceptional crisis that this country is in they should be taking exceptional remedies.

8. No. They do not have the will. This limp-dick congress will not |
|
stand up to the Bush** Regime.
This limp-dick congress will do nothing to threaten their own political careers.
Change will only come from the common people, taking back what has been taken from them. The working class. The solution lies in an uprising of the working class and poor.

You had the chance to vote against the "no surge" resolution, Arlen...instead you voted not to vote.

11. Arlen can't shut down the government, just the Senate |
|
And Reid did threaten to do this if they used the nuclear option.
The only person in Congress who can really shut down the government is the Speaker of the House assuming the caucus is behind him/her. The Senate Majority Leader might also be able to but it would be more difficult given Senate rules.

12. Arlen must not have read the DLC meme that the minority should "keep their powder dry." |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 04:38 PM by Dr Fate
Some of these Democrats should have a long talk with these rule breakers.
Dont they know that the minority party is supposed to "keep their powder dry?"
Golly- why cant the Repbulicans be a nice and courteous minortiy like we were for so many years?

16. Someone should tell Spector that he (and his fellow whiners) are welcome |
|
to leave at any time ... and the Dems would pass the legislation without them being present ...
Not absolutely sure they could achieve that, but it would make a good audio clip ...

I dare you! He would shut down the government over a NON-BINDING resolution? Oh yeah...that'll sit real well with the American voters who voted FOR CHANGE in DC. Has he forgotten the polls? Congress was polling at 13% and THIS IS WHY! DO IT ARLEN! Just DO IT!

imagine that move would be seen as anything other than a temper tantrum by some spoiled brat that didn't get his way. As GWB would say, "bring it on".
