FL Rep Allen explains his Black remarks to NAACP
Rep. Allen explains remarks

BY KAUSTUV BASU and JIM ASH
FLORIDA TODAY

State Rep. Bob Allen is reaching out to local NAACP groups to explain remarks he made about blacks after he was arrested last month on sex charges.

Allen met Saturday with about 30 members of the Central Brevard branch in Cocoa. He will speak Tuesday night to the North Brevard branch in Titusville.

Allen, R-Merritt Island, was arrested at a Titusville park in July for allegedly offering to pay $20 to perform oral sex on an undercover police officer. He is charged with one count of solicitation for prostitution, a misdemeanor.

Allen's situation drew more notoriety recently after recordings of statements he made to police were released, including one where Allen spoke of "a pretty stocky black guy and there's other black guys around in the park that -- you know . . . I'm about to be a statistic here."

In a brief telephone interview Tuesday, Allen said his comments had been "taken out of context and character."

1. Bob Allen's meeting with the NAACP must have gotten expensive.
I bet his jaw still hurts, too.

4. Don't know about the NAACP but FL Rep. leadership is not buying it

Rubio: Criminal charges curb Rep. Bob Allen's effectiveness.

State Rep. Bob Allen was removed from his committee assignments Wednesday by House Speaker Marco Rubio, who said his fellow Republican can no longer effectively represent his constituents while he faces a prostitution charge.

3. It's always "out of context" isn't it?
In a brief telephone interview Tuesday, Allen said his comments had been "taken out of context and character."

He noted, "I was also described as a heavy-set, disheveled white guy.

A "heavy-set, disheveled white guy"? Gee, where did they ever get that impression? Oh, yeah, your mug shot:

Deep in a hole and still digging - go Bob!
