Toy Industry Challenged by How to Dispose of Millions of Chinese-Made Toys

NEW YORK (AP) -- Now that toy companies have issued recalls for millions of Chinese-made toys that are either tainted with lead or otherwise hazardous to children, they are scrambling to figure out what to do with them.

Mattel Inc., which on Tuesday recalled about 19 million toys worldwide, said it was working on a "responsible approach" but could not provide details.

Amid the lack of clarity, many parents are confused about how to dispose of the toys. That may mean many of them will end up in the trash and eventually in landfills, where they could possibly leach toxins into the groundwater.

All parents know at this point is that they need to get them out of their kids' toy chests.

What a mess in more than one way! The article mentions returning them to where they were made in one part of this article.

2. Your humor is very black
but, it is probably not far from the truth.
It is easy to recycle the lead from batteries but from toys containing god knows what else?

3. This admin is trying to kill every living thing in Iraq. That's why I said it.
They'll actually just dump the stuff in a black neighborhood in Mississippi. That's how they really do things in BushCo Merka.

5. The Bu$hCo
includes Bu$h I and Raygun and well Republican corporatists are all at thecenter of 'killing' the poor and making the middle-class poor to kill them too. When only the protected rich are still alive, who are going to be their slaves? Their greed may just kill them too if there is no revolt.

Back when "The Absent-Minded Professer" with Fred MacMurray was first released by Disney, some toy company tried selling some stuff like Silly Putty, called Flubber.

It wouldn't sell, so they simply dumped the unsold Flubber into a pit, covered it with concrete and built a new factory on top.
But the buried Flubber started expanding over the years, and thus the concrete foundation kept rising. :-)

6. Return to China? Lead seems to be a common component of many products...
there...and 10% of their land contains lead. Maybe it is needed to continue to manufacture hoses (with the lead that leaks onto our gardens) and as a glaze additive to Made-in-China dishware. Or since it is found in many vitamins (and 90% of the world's vitamins/supplements come from China), it may be needed as an ingredient. How does China get all of this lead in the first place?
