I'm wondering what the christmas season is going to be like
With the credit crunch coming home to roost and in all likelihood a deep and deepening resession, people will be forclosed on, layed offed, downsized, and offshored. I have the feeling that any support left for our idiot in chief is going to vanish, next spring may be very intersesting.

2. I don't think the exulted "shopping season" is going to be very exulted this year.
The holiday season is going to come right after a major round of mortage rate re-sets in October and Nov.

10. My christmas present is getting delivered tomorrow
a new washer and dryer to replace the broken ones...

I may need to string up some lights...

Mr. B and I don't buy anything for each other and most of our family for the holidays anymore and we have been really cutting back on presents for the kids as they get older...

I enjoy the holidays for the family time and the good food....no need to dig a deeper hole of debt..

12. I spread it out over the year
Drives my older sisters crazy - especially the one who likes to go out on Black Friday - because I'll input everything I buy into a spreadsheet in which I have various formulas that show what percent done I am, average cost of gifts, whether I've given them yet or not, etc. So around September when I'm emailing the, "I'm 75% done with my shopping," they get peeved.

Most of my gifts are also bought from individuals on eBay as well because what it costs me in shipping, I save in gas money, and I'm then free to bake cookies and enjoy the season stress-free.

13. I do that, too.
Not the spreadsheet, but I buy all year. I'm done before Thanksgiving.

I HATE to shop. I didn't get the shopping gene on my X chromosomes, I'm afraid.

15. we have really cut back on the whole Christmas frenzy
when we first got married...I bought gifts for everyone on both sides of the family...it was always a nightmare trying to find what someone would like...and every year we had people offended on one side or another based on who spent what...

So the first group to stop was my family...I buy for only my mom and my nephews/neices...once you hit 21...you are off the list.

The next to go was my husband's family...only buy for the parents..and they get a gift certificate to a local eatery...one gift...no fuss.

Then Mr. B and I decide to stop buying stuff just because it was Christmas for each other...we do exchange something very small...just so the kids see that we get something...but that is it.

My shopping is done solely for my kids via the internet..

I am done in one day...and so it is upsetting to the folks who go crazy...but hell they are the ones making themselves crazy...

20. We pretty much do that as well
If you're 21 or over, you go into the hat, and you get to draw someone else's name, and we keep it under $20. My brother, one sister, and my niece are the only ones in the family at this point that have kids under 21, and they've been pushing us to buy clothes instead of toys as the kids have enough already, which I find refreshing.

My other gifts are for friends.

17. For me
Christmas shopping is largely finished.

The bulk of the shopping is for the niece and nephew. Bought them a bunch of stuff at a Discovery Store that was going out of business. Just happened to come across it while I was on a trip. No need to buy more kid stuff. I checked already and none of it seems to be recalled or made by Mattel.

Bought my brother and sister in law a huge picnic basket with service for 8 and all the accessories (matching blanket, tablecloth, napkins, etc.) on sale at the end of the season. I'll fill it with some wine, cheese and other foodstuff closer to the holiday.

Found another going out of business sale at an metropolitan art gallery and got gifts for the friends with whom I exchange gifts. Nice stuff cheap. Again, just happened to come across this while I was on yet another trip.

Still need to finish buying for the parents. Suggestions welcome. They are hard to buy for. I have picked up a few stocking stuffer kind of things. I am giving serious thought to making them a large stained glass piece.

Also, still need to pick up a few token gift items for the dog groomer, the hairdresser and a couple other assorted folks that I try to remember each year. And still need to buy gifts for the two dogs.

Haven't purchased anything from a big box store. Haven't purchased anthing from any of the merchants here in crazy red f*cking Oklahoma. Don't intend to either.

Hope nobody is counting on me dropping a load of cash to buy gifts during the holiday season. Ain't happening.
