What if Colon Powell entered the race? |
|
I personally think its a blessing that he's shown no interest in running, because I think if he did, he would be the most serious threat to any democratic candidate.

7. If he entered the race there would be one more Republican at their primary debates |
|
He'd get killed if he ran. He's waaaaaay too vulnerable if for NOTHING else than his UN speech. That is easy to use to show him to be a mindless toadie.
But there's so much more .......

If you were correct, then this entire administration would have never been reelected.
"They weren't reelected."
It wouldn't have been close enough to steal.

9. Entered the race as what? The Sponge. |
|
The man has no core values - he just absorbs the views of his handlers/bosses.
No one in recent history has garnered more goodwill for no reason than Powell. He is a totally empty uniform and won't stand up to scrutiny - starting with My Lai.

12. I think you could name a few people here |
|
The GOP race is still wide open. The fact that people are interested in a hack like Fred Thompson shows the race is far from locked up. One would think several more candidates would consider entering what is a really weak race. The lack of Colon, Jeb, Condi, Frist, Bloomberg all screams to me that these people see the 2008 race as lost already.

19. I'm not either. Because there's nothing to suggest he would run. |
|
I just like to speculate, and so far nothing anyone has said sounds like very convincing reasons why he wouldn't be more formidable than other republican candidates.
"not full of integrity" has never, ever been a major factor in picking a president. He'll be presented as completely full of integrity just like Bush, Bush Sr. and Regan all were.
You don't have to have it - you just have to look the part.

26. And that begs another question - why don't we hold our leaders to a higher standard? |
|
Hell, why don't we hold them to any standard beyond not sucking as much as the others who run? Do we as a country have that little self respect?

..Like it has so many things, the administration exploited his assets (credibility, sincerity, integrity) to sell a cynical policy and having 'scorched that earth' and ruined the man, they shoved him out. He's over.
