Let me tell you about Navy Corpsman Manuel Ruiz. One of this 21 year-old's final actions before leaving for Iraq was to mail his little brother a birthday present. Then, he shipped out to Iraq...a Corpsman...a medic...one who's job it is to save the lives of his comrades and others who were fortunate to have him as the first caregiver in life-threatening situations.

He died today...21 years old. Probably making an E-4's pay. Bills to pay at home. A little brother at home, who now has to grow up without that POSITIVE influence in his life.

Corpsman Ruiz, from a fellow brother-in-arms, I salute you from the bottom of my heart and pray that you rest in peace. To me, you are true celebrity.

I know some people go into the military for honorable reasons - i.e. my brother, who JOINED the Marines only to get killed in action in Vietnam.
