Rejecting radical Islam -- one man's journey (HUGE CNN BIAS!)

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/08/15/daveed.godswarriors/index.html

"I began to pray for the mujahedeen, for these stateless warriors who were trying to topple secular governments," he said...

"A year later, he converted to Christianity and was eventually baptized in the Baptist church..."

"As for Gartenstein-Ross, he is now a counter-terrorism consultant who works with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a Washington think-tank formed after September 11, 2001, that lists former FBI director Louis Freeh, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Sen. Joseph Lieberman among its 'distinguished advisers.'"

--------------------

This clown was raised in Ashland, Oregon - according to him the "liberal hippie Mecca". According to CNN he converted to radical Islam because of the "ultraliberal intellectual environment" of Ashland.

If we look at this guys path, we can see he hasn't changed his ultra-orthodox religious right-wing radicalism at all. He has just transferred from radical Islam to radical Christianity to the ultra-radical, militaristic, imperial, neo-con weltenschauung. ONLY THE NAMES HAVE CHANGED, NOT THE NATURE OF HIS RADICALISM.

These kind of people are not the result of "intellectual environments". There is nothing "intellectual" about mysticism. It is the exact opposite of reason and critical thought. Historically, liberals are free-thinking and challenge this embrace of black-and-white dogma. We consider nothing more dangerous. We embrace reason. We've always considered these kinds of beliefs "tyranny over the mind".

For CNN to equate Liberalism with this kind of bullshit is a perfect example of the BIG LIE. This kind of thinking is the exact opposite of Liberalism. It's the exact analog of the right-wing lie that Nazis were liberals. I am outraged.

1. Most Muslims who reject radical Islam
become moderate or liberal Muslims. They don't convert to Christianity. I think your take on the whole business is spot on, btw.
